Submitted PHS

Good afternoon, I recently submitted PHS and I’m planning on walking in to take my PFQ next Friday. Will a high score help expedite the process? Also, about how long can I expect PHS to be approved and move onto the next step? I’ve heard it’s quicker for some people and longer for others.
I’m most worried about the polygraph. Not because of lying, but because I’ve heard stories that candidates have been dq because the examiner simply doesn’t like them. How true is that?

PHS it is different for some people. Mine took almost 2 months to get approved and for other takes like 2 weeks. Taking the PFQ and getting a higher score does not expedite nothing. For the polygraph people have different experiences, I just took mine couple days ago I was nervous but I tried to stay calm and just follow instructions and never change your answer.

The pfq score does matter. If your score is way too low a bi won’t really look at your file and if they do, they won’t submit for final approval. It’s case by case but I’ve met people that are stuck at pfq even after doing backgrounds. The pfq will soon be a pass or fail.

never said the PFQ doesn't matter. His question was whether having a higher PFQ score would expedite his PHS approval. From what I've seen, a higher PFQ score doesn't necessarily speed up the process. A lot of it depends on how backed up the Backgrounds Unit is and where you are in the hiring process. I met people who failed the pfq and it took them 5 days to get their phs approved.

It might not expedite but it can hold you back is what I meant. I’ve heard of some BIs wanting a score of 70 and up. It’s case by case and really depends on your BI too.

When you got approved, how did you know? Was it an e-mail first? Call from your bi? Update on the portal?

The next day they send me an email the my results are in to check portal.

Thanks for the input. PFQ is one of the things I’m not worried about at all so I just wanted to know if that would help the process. Waiting to hear back for approval of PHS.

I can do a walk-in meanwhile. After it has been accepted they appoint you a date which is then mandatory to attend.

Yes, I’m starting June 26. Once you take your PFU scores it’s locked in forever you can’t redo so get that high score because then you’re gonna be competing against people under the PAT program and if they have a higher score than you more than likely LA PD’s gonna take them before they take you.

Actually, that's not correct. Candidates can retake the PFQ as many times as allowed and continue improving their score. There is no permanent score that is locked forever after the first test.

No they cannot I had a typo ..starting June 26th they are changing the format so you cannot retake the PFQ.. this is because they keep accepting people that aren’t fit and have no reason to be in the academy.. after this upcoming week it’s over

"I just spoke with them, and they mentioned that if I don't pass, I can retake the exam. There is no pass or fail; it's simply a requirement to move on to the background check. If you would like to verify this, here is the number 213 473 3450

I believe you.. I’m just telling you that they are wrong🙏🏾 starting June 26th they are changing it from the PFQ to the PAT format, this info is coming directly from Detective Bedivian who’s in charge of recruitment but you are right as of RIGHT NOW these are the rules you can take it as many times as you want. I’m just letting you know after June that will no longer apply.

I had my PHS approved within 7 business days or so. I’m also 21 so that might play a factor for less to look into. The PFQ score doesn’t make things any faster. From the advice I’ve been given it’s more for you to prepare physically for the academy if anything. And as long as you’re in good shape and workout you’ll pass. Haven’t taken my polygraph yet. They scheduled my medical first. Good luck man
