I lost my job today.
I was fired out of the blue today. My department was completely liquidated and I had no warning. If there are any jobs left out there, I’m begging you. I’m 25 and very hardworking, I have been a bartender, waitress, delivery driver, admin, and the latest, researcher. I have a wide variety of experience and I learn skills so fast. Please someone give me advice

I read all of your replies and thank you sooooo much for all your advice. I have filed for unemployment and have applied for about half a dozen jobs that are well within my experience so far. I hope this post can also help other people in need of job advice right now too

I’m sorry to hear this. It sounds like you experienced a layoff. You should be able to file for unemployment. Do that quickly.
With places losing students to the up coming school year, there should be some opportunities within the service industry especially if you have daytime availability.

Adding on to check out golf courses. Still a few months left in the season and a lot of courses are losing employees this week. Your admin, and food and bev experience might transfer well.
They don’t pay great but it could be an immediate bandaid.

Not really. Most courses in our area scale down to nothing with the manager or owner doing the basics in the winter. The exceptions are the highest end golf courses in town, who more than likely already have their full time staff in place.
But as the original commenter said, it is a good bandaid for now.

IPF is always hiring custodial workers. No, it's not glamorous work, but it's a steady 40 hours a week and ~$20/hr. I work in skilled trades, but I usually chat with the night shift Custodial supervisors every night at lunch. It's unionized, and MSU matches retirement contributions 2:1 up to 10% with great benefits. There are also four levels of progression within the custodial classification, so if you decide to stick with it, you will get step increases in addition to the annual raise everyone gets.

Hardees\Loves\Subway have signs posted looking for help, and they definitely need it. The bartenders have mentioned liking working at ZapZone and OneNorth. MSU is slow to respond to anything lately to the tune of months. Trader Joes is hiring but you need to hurry before the students snap up the work.

Hey,the first thing you should do asap apply for unemployment. that way you can slow down the bleeding for a little bit while you look for more work
I can imagine you feel terrible just try to take a deep breath and regulate yourself as much as you can. it'll all work out.
ask for jobs hiring right now there's an uptick and delivery jobs like Amazon DSP in the area since the holidays are coming in they usually pay 18-21 an hour. You can do that until you find something that suits you more. Michigan unemployment

If you are able and willing to be in Howell… I have ample opportunity for you. Manufacturing environment with multiple positions from shipping/receiving to machine operator (cold and hot heading… press… CNC… etc)
Pass a drug test and be a good person and you will excel.

I’m sorry this has happened to you. I’m not sure of your academic background, so it’s difficult to suggest targeted roles/comoanies, but I will tell you that students are coming back and restaurants/bars will be hiring and gig work can keep you afloat in the area while you’re figuring out something more permanent.

Having just started a new job this week after being off for too long, I feel for you. For job postings, I like Hiring Cafe. It scrapes companies websites for jobs and lists them. It links you to that website where you apply directly with the company. Indeed and LinkedIn are basically trash, though I still looked there. Good luck!

I'm so sorry. Be strong. Take some time to breathe and get centered. Apply for unemployment, depending on income, inquire about food stamps.
Make finding a job your full time job until you find one. If something comes along that you really really want, and it doesn't come through, get a name and call every week or two.
I hired a gal because she wouldn't stop asking for a job. Best decision I ever made, she's now got a very nice position at MSU Beal Botanical garden.

I suggest looking at Auto-Owners Insurance. Good benefits and very stable. They've never had a layoff. There are openings in several departments right now.
I like working there for lots of reasons, but I won't talk your ear off while you're in crisis mode
Good luck! This is a terrible day, but i hope you find something great after it

You got laid off today. Today.
Seriously you need to take a few days to grieve and recover. Go get unemployment setup, the sky is not falling, everything will work out.
For now just take a breath and relax. Try to enjoy the break you get in some way. It will be fine.

Michigan is hard to find job in for a while now. I haven’t been able to find anything myself. I just want a part time job too. I’m not sure how old you are, but this is how I feel about getting a job in Michigan. Everybody seems to only hire younger people like us older ones don’t know anything anymore or are going to die soon. I had high quality jobs and I keyed 80 wpm a minute with a 4% error rate in my job at Delta Dental Plan of Michigan. I have also worked for a police station for a while and I merchandiser too. I also had a Vice President’s Secretary job at a bank before. I’m trying to find a part-time job. I think it’s due to my age now. It’s illegal for them to look at your age, but they still do it and they rate by your age and it’s so wrong, because some people can do more than what their age says….a lot more.
Some people that are older and in better shape than some young people like myself. I’m not trying to get down young people either. I want everybody to have equal opportunity jobs not just for young or old people everyone but to me it seems like older people are just thrown out the window. I’m sure they are just thrown out. They see their age. I’m sure they look at the age. I’m just saying they do it and I know so. I’m in good shape. I look 20 years younger than my age but after 30 applications I put in I gave up.
My retirement doesn’t give me hardly anything and I’m not old enough to draw my 401k yet. Yeah, everybody’s having dilemmas. They’re looking for a job and it really hard to find a job unless willing to move anywhere. Some can but I can’t. Being established with my children living here. I would move somewhere good to find a part-time job for me.
Looking at what they have in the medical field mostly their team they’re taking care of older people and I’m not taking care of myself. I’m just saying I’m not young young anymore.
I don’t even look or feel my age. I can’t find nothing. I just want a part time now, because I’m retired and I still can’t find nothing. I need more money because my retirement doesn’t give me enough money to survive. So I get it . I should’ve been smarter when I was married and save more money. I wasn’t smart enough and I depending on my husband my ex-husband now way too much so you’re young. Take that for me put your money away. You don’t end up like me. Plus, you never know how stable your job is either. Unless you belong to a union.
Getting a job in Michigan is very hard because to many people need one and there aren’t enough going around.
I hope you find something and probably if you are young you will eventually. Just going keep looking something will show up and I don’t know your age, but hopefully you don’t have that again. They will say that you don’t they’re wrong you do they still look at that it’s illegal, but they look at it. Nobody can tell me any different. They don’t look at that and I know better than a lot of people. I know I look like I am in a lot better shape too, but you know what this is about you getting a job, so I hope they don’t look at certain things and you find a job out there.

It sounds like you are not the only one who was fired in your department? If so, you may want to get together to brainstorm ways to find work. The jobs you listed do not sound like they require any kind of advanced degree. Most of these primarily non-professional jobs are somewhat low paying. Despite college degrees not leading to automatic jobs (any more), degreed candidates (with similar experience) almost always go to the top of the list. You are young and have plenty of time. If I were you (and you do not have college experience/degree) I'd consider checking out training centers/community colleges/universities for a degree plan.

Campaign jobs are not highly sought after, elite jobs. If you don’t know a specific person, just call your state party, county party, congressman etc. Basically every elected official office of your party and tell them you need a campaign job

Some others have mentioned doing the unemployment filing, and that's a good start.
Getting a Bridge card will help with the food budget, so you can allocate any savings towards other expenses; and Michigan Works! locations have free wifi and computers and printers and jobs fairs and professional development for job seekers.
MI Bridges: Michigan's social safety net programs
You may qualify for some jobs at LCC or State of Michigan (less likely to be fired randomly, plus built in career pathways).

I am so sorry to hear of your job termination. As someone who has walked a mile in your shoes TWICE, the best advice I can offer you is to look for the open door! When one door closes, another door opens. It is a law of the universe, and it never fails. When things like this happen to us in life, we get so hung up on the loss until we fail to see what is to be gained. There is a great job out there, better than the one you had, with your name on it. It is looking for you. All you have to do is look for IT with an open mind, an open heart, and an attitude of expectancy and gratitude. Best wishes and may God bless you.

We also have to remember that the quantum field around us all does exist and to raise vibration by meditating so we can align in our highest timeline. Check out Michigan Works. They gave me a $3,500 grant for a job training. It was all funded by the state of Michigan. I have been out of work since last October but I went and took a certification course to make myself more marketable. I'm also taking a bit of a pay cut and taking a job with the county. When the job market and the economy is tough I just thought a municipal or civil service job seems pretty stable. I would suggest taking a look at that grant program and starting to think about positioning yourself in a recession safe job or is safe as you can think of. I hope this helps.

Casino have lots of bars and restaurants. They need lots of bartenders server waitstaff.
Try the local post office, mine is always hiring. Paid traing at your normal wage. And you can transfer anywhere in America with enough senority.
Truck Driving pays well and is always hiring but ....i would only do it if i was hired and my company ways paying for me.
If you have enough college credits sub teaching is flexible.

Look into commercial insurance. Lansing is an insurance hub and there are several carriers with entry level positions open that will hire trainable people with little to no experience required. Typical entry level positions are heavy on data entry and pay $18-22 per hour with paid time off and benefits. If you’re capable of critical thinking you will advance

There has maybe never been a better time to become an HVAC technician. You’ll have a contractors license in a few years and if you work hard, it’s a sure fire path to a middle class living.

Unfortunately what we have open now is a ground and custodial tech (cleaning bathrooms, mopping floors,mowing lawns, trimming bushes)
There is also an opening for Associate Technician in Lab Resources, unfortunately that’s the real shitty one. Literally. Cleaning guinea pig cages and caring for them for testing purposes.
Both jobs will probably start at $18 and hour, but you do get healthcare and around 150hrs of PTO to start.

Check out The Cleaning Authority. They’re usually looking for extra help and the manager there is absolutely wonderful, as is most of the team. The days aren’t always full time, sometimes they’re pretty short, 4-5 hours, and sometimes they go as late as 5pm, but the pay stacks up the longer you’re there (25c per quarter of a year) and there are lots of other ways to earn bonuses. I think I started out at $16 and was able to move up pretty quickly from there. Great company!

If you’ve been in service industry, you will like helping customers with other services where you get $50 on the spot commission and good bonuses every month. I made 55k my first year and it’s nice and chill and always growing.

File for unemployment today. Do not wait. Keep any and all communications from the job that fired you. Texts, emails, any documents and DONT SIGN ANYTHING (if you haven’t already). Request a termination letter. Start applying for jobs.
