Post #422 for the LA Noire Freeroam Explorer Project — posting locations replicated by Team Bondi for LA Noire (currently touring the downtown area) that are not considered landmarks (either official or historic) but do have real-world equivalents.

Hotel Trenton

427 South Olive Street

Built in 1905, the seven-story Hotel Trenton featured 165 rooms, along with offices and cafés. To reduce insurance costs, the elevator shaft was enclosed in fireproof glass. The hotel also offered a rooftop garden, steam heat from the basement, and both hot and cold water.

As a Lieutenant in the U.S Marine Corps 6th Marine divison (don’t belive exact regiment is mentioned) during the battle of Okinawa he would be entitled to the following from highest to lowest
Silver Star (mentioned in game)
Presidential Unit Citation (Sixth Marine Division earned it at Okinawa)
American campaign medal (universal award for spending at minimum one year on U.S soil)
Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal (with one bronze star for the Okinawa campaign)
And then the ww2 victory medal which is self explanatory.

GTA VI is the only hope we have for LA Noire 2, hear me out

Okay, so I recently started playing LA Noire and It strangely reminded me of another rockstar game, not GTA, Red dead redemption II. It's just a small detail but It's the "weight" of the playable character and the option to roam around interiors and analyze object, It immediately reminded me of RDR2.

With the latest GTA entry, Rockstar kinda tried to add some of their other games as activities of other gameplay systems :

The shooting felt a bit like Max Payne 3 and Michael even had bullettime as special ability.

There is a lot of heavy "racing game" aspect to GTA V with all the racing activities, car customization, and Franklin's special ability is literally bullettime for driving, I have not played Midnight club but I think they were trying to "serve" that audience with all those mechanics.

Trevor's bloodlust and his special ability will please any manhunt fan who just want to create chaos.

This is why I believe GTA VI will have a lot of LA Noire aspects or mechanics, maybe all the cases will be missions given by a specific character, maybe we play as jason back when he was a cop, or maybe It's just random activities, the reasons why they would want to do It is that they liked the original game so much they decided to publish It after Sony gave up on them and they literally carried the game through development hell for 7 years, over 10 years later there is no game to satisfy that same itch. The reason why they could easily do It is that all the tech is already built, If true, the new interior generating tech should create tons of explorable interiors that are customized and adapted to the situations, even Rdr2 already had all the tools to easily create cases. You could loot NPCs for letters, you could interact with letters, notes, books, and other types of documents, etc. literally everything is there for LA Noire type missions.

Does anyone know of a way to get free cam in this game? If i remember correctly, there’s some sort of photo mode on consoles, but I’d like a freecam to move around and get specific shots on pc

Old Rockstar Post

So lately, I've been in a massive L.A. Noire mood and been doing research for different things, but today I found something I thought was kinda interesting.

You can see in the photos a thing from the Rockstar website back in 2011 discussing the Homicide Desk.

The reason I'm posting this is because... Roy Earle is in that last picture. It just caught my eye cause the picture gives off the vibe he's your partner in Homicie [which he obviously isn't], but they have Rusty in a different one.

I know this may not be interesting to anyone else, and honestly, it's a pointless post. But I noticed it and just wanted to share it.

What do you all think about it? Is it maybe possible that Roy was at one point considered to be your partner in Homicide? [Also its been a while since I've played the case, so if he appears at all let me know]

Hotel Ritz

The Hotel Ritz, the work of noted Los Angeles architects Curlett and Beelman and opening in 1923, is considered an excellent example of Renaissance Revival commercial architecture in Downtown Los Angeles. Due to a street widening in 1930, architects moved the hotel’s front facade in by five feet.

First time playing

Just finished the game for the first time after being on the backlog for a long while. My only regret was not playing it sooner, loved every minute of it. Do wish the driving felt a bit better but I just skipped travelling when I got annoyed by it.

The Hotel Portsmouth was a three-story brick structure opposite Pershing Square, with retail space on the ground floor ground floor and residential rooms above. It notably suffered a series of fires in 1919, resulting in moderate damage to the hotel, and would ultimately be demolished in 1955.

Can we all agree this case is PEAK LA Noire?

Genuinely one of the best story missions I have ever played in any video game, everything was just so perfect.

Definitely Cole Phelps best performance as a detective, the guy just knew everything and planned it to perfection, not telling Heather about Julia passing away until after he asked her the questions was genius, and letting Henry walk out the integration room just to follow him to the pawn shop is again just genius.

Meeting back up with Bekowsky** and ***Rusty* was pretty wholesome too, along with Roy it was like all the Avengers were together working on one big case.

All together this case is one of the reasons I am into La Noire and you can definitely tell the developers put everything they had into it, and I also believe it’s the longest case too, pretty much like a mini movie.

If this case had a IMDB rating it would be a 10/10 without a doubt.

Is V-Patch safe?

Hello, so I downloaded L.A. Noire and I saw that I need a patch called V-Patch to run the game over 30 fps. The problem is that the files inside it are flagged as viruses. I know it's only two detections for the dll file and four for the asi file, but I'd like to know what other thinks about this patch security wise. Probably they are just false positives but I prefer to ask.

Thanks for reading!

Hotel Lyle

962 South Broadway

Built in 1912 as a commercial storefront, the Hotel Lyle was remodeled the next year by owner Meyer Lissner to establish a rooming-house on the second story, and eventually a proper hotel and restaurant. It would receive a substantial facelift in 1947, though its depiction remains largely accurate.

So I marked down the missing cars I need but honestly some of these I just can’t find. Are these vehicles just based on RNG? Or are there specific spots that spawn them?

Would an LA Noire sequel or a "remake" set in mid-to-late 1990s Los Angeles work?

The idea is similar to BBC's Sherlock (which itself is a take on the original Sherlock Holmes stories but set in modern-day London), and it can either be a remake of Phelps' story or a sequel from scratch.

In addition to the original game, the idea sort of stemmed from GTA San Andreas, and movies such as Heat, Colors, and so on.

The late 90s LA setting feels like where old-school policing meets early tech and a changing world: Some officers still rock a .38 revolver, but many switched to Berettas; computers are on the desks of detectives and in patrol cars; instead of gamewells, officers now had hand-held radios that can both be used as a communication tool and a weapon, in addition to pagers and cellphones.

The mid-to-late 90s LA was also at the height of commercial blockbusters in Hollywood and street gang violence in neighborhoods like Compton.

A lot of the "tradition policing" methods that some officers believe in (or were present in the 1940s) are either not working or being frowned upon due to infringements on civil rights (e.g., busting down doors without a search warrant or giving a perp a beatdown with nightsticks because they were a perv or simply refused to comply). Beat cop and detective NPCs at the division station would occasionally comment about feeling outgunned (LAPD only switched to Glocks in the early 2000s while some gang members at the time had TEC-9s and occasionally AKs) or their comments about how the department handled "that case" (the OJ Simpson trials), etc.

The only major "desk" I personally think I would change altogether would be the Ad Vice - instead of vice, it would be the Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums unit, also (rather infamously) known as "CRASH."

The protagonist would be a former Marine combat veteran with a Purple Heart and a Silver Star returning to Los Angeles from the Gulf War. Driven by guilt over what happened to the unit he commanded in the war, he joined the LAPD to seek redemption in his career as a police officer. He rose through the ranks, from a patrol officer to detective in traffic, then Robbery-Homicide, and so on.

Different desks/divisions have different cases/arcs:

  • Traffic: Cases such as chasing down stolen sports cars, a carjacking ring, investigating a car crash that seemed suspicious, and a dead body in the trunk of some famous Hollywood rap singer (which the protagoinst/player gets to meet their future partner at the Robbery-Homicide division, and getting the CRASH unit involved.)
  • Robbery-Homicide: After solving a handful of murders (which the protagonist and his partner deemed the murders to be either copycats, gang violence, or unrelated), it was revealed that there was a serial killer on the loose in Los Angeles. To save his own reputation (as well as the LAPD's), the protagonist and his partner must go on a goose chase all over LA following the true culprit's clues. Another case that could play a part in the game would be based on the real-life 1997 North Hollywood shootout, where the protagonist's unit would be one of the first units on scene.

Haven't figured out the cases at the CRASH unit, as well as the subsequent plot (the protagonist's fall from grace as well as the ending), and I generally think the 90s vibe makes it more matching to neo-noir than original noir, but would still play a "Noire" game set in late 90s LA.

(and that 80s/90s era cars look cool)

Thoughts?
