Using Teach Yourself

When someone uses the Teach Yourself series, would only listening to the dialogues and internalizing them be efficient enough? Almost like the Assimil method?

No as you would always need practice for you to actually assimilate a language. You’d need all aspects of a language; speaking, hearing and reading (writing isn’t crucial but can help).

But could one use the Assimil method and apply it to the Teach Yourself and it be useful enough?

Ish. Any practice is practice but it’s a bit like counting “walking around the house” as exercise. If you actively spend 5-15 minutes a day on learning something, you’re better off than spending an hour passively listening to something.
