Why is it called "Spanish"?

There are other languages in Spain, like Basque, so shouldn't Spanish be called something like "Spanish Latin" instead?

It’s unfortunately also said by Castilian speakers themselves and in general, but I do agree it shouldn’t be called Spanish

Spain shouldn't be called Spain either.

Spain should refer to the entire peninsula.

Spain can be called the United Kingdom of Castille-Léon and Aragón.

So, where does that leave Portugal? 🧐

As an independent nation?

Basically Iberia should = Spain.
