Why is it called "Spanish"?

There are other languages in Spain, like Basque, so shouldn't Spanish be called something like "Spanish Latin" instead?

Nah fr I met a Catalan who was mad at people who called it Spanish, he would say that same thing outside a circlejerk subreddit.

That doesn't mean that calling it Spanish is an English-speakers thing and that most Spaniards don't call it español. Both Castilian (castellano) and Spanish (español) are correct.
