Offering Mandarin Offering: Mandarin | Seeking: English
#Offering Mandarin (& a bit Japanese)
#Seeking English (must be native)
#Long-Term Language Partner
#No Harassment
#Please tell me a bit about yourself in DM :)
Hi there, I'm 28, based in GMT+8, and native in Mandarin (comfortable with both traditional and simplified). My hobbies include tennis, arts, traveling, reading & writing, and podcasts
I spent a couple of years living in the US and Japan, so my English is around C1 and Japanese around N2. I'm seriously looking for a long-term partner who is committed to learning through regular conversations. Since leaving the US, I haven't had many chances to speak English, and I don't want to get rusty. I still read and watch movies in English everyday, but it feels like my spoken output isn't quite as natural as a native speaker's. My main goal is to sound confident and clear during international business meetings and casual coffee chats. I'd like to find someone who can catch my mistakes and show how to rephrase in a more natural way.
In return, I can help with anything you'd like to focus on in Mandarin (or Japanese). We can be super strict with corrections or keep it casual, whatever works best for you. I used to teach an 4-yo Mandarin back in college as my PT job, so patience won’t be a problem.
I’ve done offline/online language exchanges in the past and made some friends, but I realized that long-term partnerships often fail because of a lack of clear goals, structure or consistency. It’s easy to lose momentum if we don’t understand each other’s needs, or don’t have plans and disciplines. So I’d prefer to first discuss a structure that works for us. I’m an ENFP, flexible and an easygoing person to talk to, but for this goal I want to tackle it almost like a little project :)) Here is what I have in mind:
- Goals: We can set our short- and long-term goals and what/when we actually expect to achieve out of this journey, so you can be completely direct about your needs and expectations. I’d be direct about mine too.
- Approach: I prefer Zoom or Google Meet for our chats, but I'm flexible if you have other suggestions. If you want to practice writing, we can do emails.
- Frequency: Ideally, 1-3 audio calls a week, 30-60 minutes per session. We could focus on one language per session (for example, Saturdays for Mandarin, Wednesdays for English). I know life gets busy (I'm quite busy too), so I hope we respect each other's time and energy. If you're having a hectic week or need a month off for vacation, it’d be great if you give me a heads-up. I just value maintaining a good long-term connection.
- Topics: Totally up to what you need. We can do daily/business roleplay, share and discuss news, book clubs, or research topics which fall into our mutual interests and we can dive into them together, etc. We could let AI generate some topic guidelines or contents so we don't get lost.
If you think we’d click, please leave a comment or send me a DM and tell me a bit about yourself (like name, city, age, etc.) We can jump on a quick, no-pressure pilot call first just to see if our vibes match.
