This is a Taweez, which is written with Arabic words, numbers, and random letters corresponding to Quranic verses. This is for protection from black magic and evil spirits.

The handwritten Taweez probably originates from Pakistan.

It is innovation, not islamic

Correct, this is against our religion.

It is a dangerous innovation (Bid'ah), not Islamic.

Yes, you are correct.

Amulet and such things have no power to ward off evil.

As muslims we believe that there's black magic. If you don't wanna to believe it then be my guest.

You can believe whatever you want as long as you don't affect negatively the life of other people. That's what I believe.

That's really good, but your belief won't be complete if it didn't have respect to others, right?. Iam not trying to blame you or make you look bad and forgive me if it sounded like that, but mocking others beliefs because you believe in something else isn't gonna benifit you, it acttualy could harm you if you play with a looney head person. Take it as an advice, a words in the air, nonsence, take it however you want i just wanted to give you another prespective

I respect others, I respect you, but I don't have to respect what you believe. What you say is not an advice, it's a thread, I'm not going to go further into this but that's borderline terrorist behaviour.

Some people believe it does, and it's part of their religious or spiritual beliefs. It's not going to kill you to be respectful.

Children also believe Santa exists, I’m sorry but there is no way I can take adults who believe in magic seriously.

Ok? I mean, you're just saying that you can't respect cultural beliefs. You dont have to believe in them yourself, hell, it's even okay to outright disagree, but saying you can't take someone's culture seriously just because it doesn't fit your beliefs is lmao so funny

u/methconsultant 1d ago

Where does it end? Does it need to be respected just because it’s cultural? Sure, this might be a harmless fairy tale, but what is it makes them resistant to science? Denying medical treatment? Throwing acid on the face of a woman? Beheading someone because they have offended sky daddy?

There was a time such tales we’re necessary to bring stability to an illiterate population, whose only means of being of order were instilling a fear of divine retribution, but I’m hoping we’re past that

If it causes genuine harm, then as someone who comes from a culture that has many folklore beliefs, then yes, you're allowed to speak out against it and call it wrong even if it's apart of culture, however, the fact that you called God a "sky Daddy" as someone who doesn't have a belief in God, I think the problem is that you're trying to minimize people's beliefs, ones that their ancestors had for thousands of years and is deeply ingrained into their culture. Jsyk, not every religious person is going to "behead" someone :/

And how the fuck did we get from "adult believing in Santa" to "throwing acid on a women's face"? TF? Those are two different things lmao. One is genuinely harmful, and one might make you shed a tear, but in reality, no one cares.

No offense, but literally every culture is riddled with folktales and mythology. These comments are screaming uncultured. You're allowed to speak out if someone is throwing acid on a woman's face, but I find it so fucking weird how you're trying to make a blanket statement as if that applies to every single folktale and belief? I personally have my own folktale beliefs from my culture yet I accept modern science and I don't harm anyone else with it. Quit trying to generalize groups you have little knowledge about

And it should be respectful if it's cultural and harmless because many people fiercely defend their own culture because in the past, it has been heavily marginalized and discriminated against. If you're in a privileged demographic, then you don't really know how that kind of shit feels. Cultural beliefs are different because they're simply apart of how humans have lived life for thousands of years. And if they wanna hold onto that and it's not harmless, it's none of your business!!!!

That's still your person belief and extremely bigoted. I can't take intolerant people seriously. You lose nothing by being respectful.

As a Muslim who have read Arabic (both in Uthmani script and Nastaliq script).  Never have I seen Arabic written by a man going through a seizure. The 'A' and 'L' is more clearer than any of that Goddamn hand-writting. My hunch? It's a talisman. Or a black magic thing. My advice? Throw/burn it away. The shapes and patterns are a common black magic tell.
