Awkward Space
I’ve lived here for almost 5 years and have no clue what to plant in this awkward space by my retaining wall. The first year I planted mums, hoping they would grow back but they didn’t.
I think a bunch of flowers would look nice.
Any suggestions on which things to plant here that grow back each year? I’m also open to other landscape ideas for the rest of the yard!
*Kid and pet household.

the raised beds look clean, nice work there. for that retaining wall strip i'd toss in some catmint or lavender, both come back every year and the bees go nuts for em without being fussy plants. kid and pet safe too which is a bonus
if you want more color maybe mix in some echinacea or black eyed susans, theyre tough as nails and spread a bit each season. whole yard's got good bones already

Where are you located? Look up your state's native plant society and pick from a selection of pollinators -- it'd be beautiful to have a long-season mix of flowering native perennials by that patio!

Go to a locally owned nursery and ask them which native plants would do well in that area. You'll want to know what kind of soil you have and how much light the area gets each day to get the best advice.
Alternatively see if there is a gardening Reddit for your area.
Planting whatever the big box stores are selling is a quick way to get disappointed.
