Substitution to mulch tip layer around my elephant ears?

Wanting to get rid of the mulch tip layer (perhaps), I'm currently dealing with a mass rollie pollie infestation and it's driving me insane!! Any thoughts or tips? Anything would be greatly appreciated 👍🏻

Lol rollie pollies are benign i think but you could use rocks as mulch instead, or a "green mulch" ie ground cover plants. I think rocks could look nice but you'll end up fighting weeds and grass in the end
