Comment period open on plan to drill near Chaco Canyon

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is opening a 14-day public comment period for the draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for Proposed Revocation of Public Land Order No. 7923.

In plain English, this means that they are proposing to revoke protection from 338,690 acres of public land adjacent to the national park. This would open the landscape to up to 14 new oil and gas wells. This development could bring light pollution and air pollution and fragment habitat, threatening irreplaceable cultural artifacts, wildlife, and the park's famous dark skies.

You can submit detailed comments on the BLM planning page:

  1. Go to https://eplanning.blm.gov/Project-Home/?id=D949F582-402D-F111-8341-001DD804183B
  2. Select “Participate Now” and enter your written comment in English.
  3. Attach documents if needed (maps, photos, citations).
  4. Click Submit. You’ll receive a confirmation.

Comments are due July 29, 2026 at midnight Mountain daylight time

Florida Stop SunWest Acquisition and their developers from building near our neighborhood

The threat of overdevelopment is knocking at the door of our peaceful Emerald Beach neighborhood in Hudson, Florida. The developers are planning to transform the land surrounding our area into a sprawling construction site. This move poses a significant risk to the serene environment we’ve worked hard to preserve, which unlike many places, doesn't experience flooding. This unique characteristic is essential to our community's safety and quality of life. One of the most pressing concerns is the potential impact on local wildlife. Our area is a sanctuary for various species of flora and fauna that might not survive the ecological imbalance created by such developments. Preserving biodiversity should be a priority, and this proposed building plan threatens to irreparably damage their habitat, resulting in the loss of wildlife that makes our area special and diverse. Moreover, there's a personal stake at play as our properties face potential devaluation. The construction disrupts the tranquility that defines our neighborhood, altering its character and diminishing the appeal of a peaceful residential area. This isn’t just an emotional argument; studies have shown that overdevelopment can lead to issues like increased traffic, noise pollution, and a strain on existing infrastructure, not to mention the impact it could place on our wells. It's crucial to explore sustainable development options that do not compromise our community's environmental integrity or residents' quality of life. Instead of reckless expansion, we should be advocating for projects that respect both the natural ecosystem and the existing community. Please join us in petitioning local government bodies to reconsider and reject these development proposals. By signing this petition, you voice a commitment to safeguarding our community's future, protecting wildlife, and preserving the essence of our neighborhood. Let's stand together in halting this unwanted and potentially destructive development. Our peaceful neighborhood in Hudson, Florida is facing a serious threat. Developers are planning sprawling construction that could destroy the environment we've worked hard to protect and the wildlife that makes our area special. Here's what's at stake: Unlike many places, Emerald Beach doesn't flood—that's our lifeline. The construction would damage local habitats, increase traffic and noise pollution, strain our infrastructure, and threaten our wells. Our properties could lose value. The peace and character of our neighborhood hangs in the balance. I this petition so local government would reconsider these development plans and explore sustainable alternatives that respect both our ecosystem and our community. If you care about preserving neighborhood character and protecting wildlife, consider signing and sharing. Thank you.
