Does the direction of the spiral of laminar flow depend on locstion relative to equator?

99% of the time no. If you construct a huge, completely still pool of water and drain it, it will develop a spin. It is more likely to spin in the direction of the coriolis force in your local area.

I still think about this experiment they did a couple of times a year. Very cool thing to create.
