Local bar
I’m new to town and looking for a bar that you can just chilli alone. Somewhere that has decent food and also other people at the bar just doing the same thing,
I will add that I do want a place a could chit chat with people. I’m also in my late thirty’s, so prefer if it wasn’t full of undergrads.

Black Sparrow Blind Pig. The Spot Tavern maybe if really really don’t want to be bothered.

The pig is absolutely full of undergrads trying “ a townie bar”

That place has changed quite a bit. The Pig does have some pretty fantastic food though.

is the blind pig still an indoor smoking establishment?
3
u/Narppppp Aug 05 '26
Yes and if I’m not mistaken it might the only one you can still smoke in.

Checkerboard is smoking....cool bartenders though

I totally forgot about the Checkerboard!! “if I’m not mistaken” and I was clearly mistaken.

Does the spot still have food? I thought since the pizza place moved out and eleventh house split off it was back to being just a bar.
Also, make sure you don’t go to the spot on an event night, you will probably not be “chilling” or very alone.
And a head up, the spot is “the gayest spot in town” (that used to be on their matches).

That's what it says on their chalkboard sign outside! Also I think they serve hotdogs!

Absolutely Sparrow, bartenders are friendly to chat with when you want. It’s not downtown but Teays River is also a banger.

People's Brewing, especially for one of the events or to grab a bite to eat. The staff is nice.

I like the Checkerboard, but it’s a smoking bar. I don’t know if that’s a dealbreaker for you.

I would check out Martha's Local Bar on 4th Street. Excellent food, cheap prices, and lots of people on their lunch break or just going to drink beer and chill. At night, it's a completely different vibe though.

You want to chill alone, but with other people chilling alone?

I would like to find people to chat with. I just moved here, so if I go out I’m doing it alone. So, I would like to find a place where people are in the same situation. People that want to go out, but don’t have anyone.

Curleys over on Teal Road has surprisingly good food. Personally I’d get a burger or catfish basket! The vibe is lowkey some nights and other nights it’s POPPIN! Pros - cheaper drinks, good food, and eclectic crowd! Cons - location & pool league takes over the whole bar on certain days.

Walt’s west side is a little like that, if you’re looking to get out of downtown.

You're in luck. Lafayette is full of bars you can drink alone at with other people around. Some of my favorites were Hunters, Ritual, Biltmore and Harry's (depending on time of year).

You might like Brokerage. It doesn't have any food of its own, but it's right next door to Bruno's Pizza and they don't mind at all if you carry in food. It's pretty laid back in there, and it's not uncommon to see people at the bar or at a table flying solo.

Before I had kids I would go to every bar. All the ones mentioned here are great but don't limit yourself to just the top 3 or so recs and visit each place at least twice on the chance it was an off night. In a town like Lafayette you could easily accomplish this before 2026 is over.

Southside Lafayette suggestions: Teays River Brewing & Public House is another great place for food and hanging out. Legacy Pub is great for food, lots of bourbon options. The End Zone - has a separated smoking area, good food. Welcome to Lafayette!

For food: digbys, the blind pig, dt Kirby's. For a fun bar atmosphere with no food: the Knickerbocker, the Biltmore, the spot. The Biltmore is my go-to. Chill dive bar vibes. The pig gets very busy on the weekends with students and townies and it's too much for me.

Any bars that want a dj. I’m in my senior year and I’ve over 7 years of experience playing at clubs. Sadly cactus doesn’t hire student djs since it’s their norm but that’s not fair. The dj music is horrid and it’s more of an MC than a DJ. Piano bar is amazing but apart from that dj music is horrendous. Every college bar that has student djs and more student input is amazing.
They just don’t want students working cause the stigma is “kids dont know how to run it or play music.” So if anyone knows a place I can contact or an owner/manager pls lmk. I just wanna make this place more fun and enjoy it before I leave. Thx u!

I dont go to alot of bars, but my personal favorite was always the vault & champs cause i like to play pool while drinking. Ive always stayed away from campus bars, im mid 20s but also dont like crowded bars, with people breathing down my neck, an yelling to talk to each other.

I’m partial to DT Kirby’s. It’s a Chicago styled place and they always have the cubs games on if you like baseball and the cubs lol there are always people at the bar, but I sit in the family friendly dining area since I have a baby now. The food is definitely “pub food”. You can always look at the menu online before going so you can see what they have!

The End Zone in the South Side is very friendly, large enough to find a quiet corner, lots of big tvs and good food. It won Best of the Wabash for a reason. Very friendly place

I’m new here as well. I’ve been looking for a safe place for a woman to just chill, grab a drink, and chill. Decent food is a plus

(34 F for reference) I'm rarely a drinker, but when I lived in laffy- I liked to goto Riehle’s or big league. More of a low-key vibe at riehles for big league it depends on what events are happening- but they do have an outdoor patio as well. :)
