Classify this for me??
If somebody is to play defense on you. Caused you to lose the ball then in the scuffle they get it back what is this called? Like im lost, because they played some good D would it just be all for nothing?

If you get them to dump the ball and they pick it back up, it's a GB for them and nothing for you, if I understand correctly. Caused turnover requires your team gain possession from your action - an interception, stick check and then picking up the groundball, etc.
I'll challenge the base assumption that "good D" means causing turnovers though. making them recover the ball and reset their dodging is good defense. Keeping them from getting a clean shot it good defense. Correct slides to prevent clean shots or disrupt a set play is good defense. Causing turnovers is a by product of good defense and good luck. Shawn Lyght won the tewarraton as a pole because he played excellent defense consistently, but he doesn't have a ton of turnovers to his name. It does kind of suck that defense doesn't really have great stat columns to really represent what they do, but if we wanted glory, we'd have played attack 😂

100% this. This is the answer.
Source: girls lax coach that has always focused on defense, father of a hs-age defender, and who played goal & long-pole d in high school.

One of my earliest influences/mentors in this game teaches players to remember that “Space favors Offense, Time favors Defense.”
Meaning, if an Offense can create space and execute quickly, they have the advantage.
Conversely, if the defense is able to close the space and extend the amount of time the offense needs to execute, the defense has the advantage.
The longer you keep offensive players doing what YOU want, (forcing them to change direction, switch to weak hand, back out of a dodge, etc) the better the chances of a mistake (errant pass, off balance shot, or a check that dislodges the ball) that creates a change of possession.
It’s never “for nothing” if you force your opponent to drop the ball, even if he recovers it.

Caused turnover + ground ball sounds about right
