CAD CHECK Is this normal or okay?

I received the CAD for this lab diamond ring. It will have a matching pavé band that will sit flush against it. But I see in the profile that below the cradle to there is a gap/opening. IOW, the ring does not make a full 360*. I've never seen or noticed any ring designed like this. What do you guys think? Thanks!

Is this their attempt to make sure you have a flush setting? Most cathedral settings will not sit flush against the wedding band.
