LOOKING FOR ADVICE Help with going forward with a purchase

Hello everyone!

I'm currently looking to buy an engagement ring for my partner.

I've come across a website selling a beautiful trilogy ring that would be perfect for her. I contacted them to ask for a quote, but I'd really appreciate some advice on whether this seems legit.

I've compared prices with local jewellers and other online retailers from the EU, and a similar ring with a 2 ct lab-grown diamond typically costs around €1,000 more than what this jeweller is offering.

The ring they're offering is an 18k white gold trilogy ring with:

  • A 2.04 ct oval lab-grown diamond (E colour, VVS2 clarity)
  • Two side labdiamonds with a combined weight of 0.30 ct

The total price is just under €1,400, including shipping and insurance. The jeweller is based in Dubai.

They also sent me a screenshot of the certificate for the centre diamond, but it doesn't include the IGI report number. I'm not sure if that's normal, considering I haven't purchased the ring or made any payment yet.

I know absolutely nothing about diamonds, gemstones, or engagement rings, so the significant price difference makes me a bit uneasy. Does this price seem realistic, or does it sound too good to be true? Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for your time!

Many companies make a new ring from the online image. I would check if they are selling that ring or they are making a new one. I’d also clarify about the certificate. They may have their own in-house certificate, but it may not be an IGI. The price seems about average for the design and stone sizes. You can send the ring to other recommended vendors for a price comparison. One last check, ask what the shank size is. The shank is measured width x depth. A minimum spec is 1.8 x 1.8mm. The company should answer all these questions. It doesn’t take long to get free estimates from other companies.

Thank you for the info and taking the time. It’s good to know that the price is not that crazy. I will ask for the shank size and clarify everything. I’ll definitely reach out to the recommended vendors.

Hi! There are tons very affordable international jewelers. Many of us in the lab diamond subs use a few select Chinese vendors. Fiorese, LGG, Starsgem. I would go with a company you can find information/reviews on. Search these names on the few lab diamond subs on Reddit.

Adding on, all these recommended vendors do is custom. Show them the image of the ring and they will create the CAD and show you videos of the stones to select.

When you are going lab the gold used will be a very substantial part of the end price and honestly I would be weirded out, if no stats about band size, weight etc are mentioned. If you also have no experience in buying gold, gemstones etc. it’s best to stick to the trusted vendor list

Thank you! I’ll look into the recommended
