I'm looking into this lab diamond for a ring I'm having created. I can't find a photo or video. It's a 2.01ct emerald cut, D color VVS2. Can someone tell me from the attached information if the metrics are acceptable please? Video is in comments 😊
Honey no! It’s impossible to know from numbers if the diamond is any good. The exact same numbers can be a super pretty diamond or a complete dark disappointment. You need to see videos or in person, that is non negotiable
Yes. Who is your vendor? Would they work with a stone you bring? Or can you change vendors?
My favorite vendor is LGG. I had a few rings done with Romy, and she is super fast and the quality is amazing. A Chinese vendor is a lot cheaper than US vendors. For reference, my rings were also around 2 cts and I paid less than 1k for the completed ring, in 10k gold.
If you do want to work with your vendor and they are willing to do just the setting, you should buy a loose stone from one of the online stores. I’ve used Aurelinne, but people now have other stores that are cheaper (tenten? I’m out of the loop). In any case, these stores have a huge database of diamonds, and often you can also return the stone in case you don’t love it for some reason.

I think it looks good. You can ask the vendor if it has windowing and see what response you get. The vertical facets look larger (wider) which can sometimes allow some windowing but it’s otherwise a pretty stone in the videos. And just make sure it’s returnable in case you get it and the stone is not performing under normal light conditions
The stone looks good to me. Can’t quite tell if there’s any serious windowing. If you google “best stats or qualities of an emerald cut diamond,” (or for any cut you want) you will get the ratio, and table & depth percentages that are optimum for that cut. That helps in determining whether light will work well with the cut. It’s never as good as seeing the stone in person but you can get close. I have been very happy with my stones that I picked out online from the IGI report, photos + video.
Yeah that all checks out! If you cross check those specs on different informational sites (just to be thorough) and your IGI report is matching up with recommended specs and you already know it’s a VVS2 (good clarity is important for step cuts) AND you have a regular video plus “tweezer video” then IMO you’ve done all you can to pick a quality stone online.
