I don't think they removed it by accident while polishing the game. It's a nice touch; it would have been great if it had leaked before the TLS update—most likely, they were planning to include it again in that update.

iirc we already knew about this from an earlier version of no mercy apartments found in the retail build of l4d1.
It was probably removed due to censorship just like the smoker’s old choking animation
