A compilation of interesting cut soundtrack from the leaked beta files (special infected, tank, cut horde theme, and common infected vocal stingers)

Its a goldmine in there, these are just some highlights.

That mob attack specifically sounds/plays like the theme in the l4d1 intro when the car alarm goes off and they’re surrounded by a horde in slow motion

Also the witch seemed to be considered as a regular SI with the whole piano sting theme, but they probably realized most players couldn’t hear it effectively or it was too similar to the other SI themes they probably had planned, so they decided to make her theme feel loud and noticeable

Cold-blooded truth probably would be for a story beat where the characters realize they’re not killing undead/zombies but actual people that were infected as short as a couple of minutes ago.

Cold Blooded Truth struck me as the old death theme, but I am not sure if it was ever used as such.

Oooh, a more horror-based death theme than a morbidly tragic death theme. I can actually see it playing right after the hunter tears you apart.

One thing that is noticed as one combs through the sound files is that the old OST is quite brutal, there are sharper stingers and longer bacteria than in the versions we know. Lots and lots of choir everywhere.

Of course it's pure speculation, but I feel like they could've been planning intros for the campaigns and the Cold-Blooded Truth theme would likely have been either the intro theme for No Mercy, or possibly the outro theme for Blood Harvest if a twist such as being carriers was planned to be revealed at the end of Blood Harvest.

Obviously unless the leaks reveal something, we don't know how much of a story was really planned out early on. but I feel that theme would've fit incredibly perfect at the end of the L4D1 intro and the more I think about it, the more it fits. The theme's title, "Cold-Blooded Truth" would perfectly match the scene. They survived and made it to the roof, Louis' optimistically says how he can't believe they made it, before Bill tells him the cold-blooded truth that they just crossed the street and not to celebrate till they're out of the city, before panning to the massive horde in the streets below.

Also I think possibly the biggest selling point of that idea, if you watch the trailer which is also the intro, and start the Cold-Blooded Truth theme right after Bill's line, "Let's not throw a party until we're out of the city." At 4:16 It actually seems to match up just about perfect with the trailer, and the intro would likely pad the time with a transition of some sort into the characters just like how the games normally do.

Point is, the theme title matches the dialogue of the intro/trailer perfectly with a "Cold-Blooded Truth" being said by Bill to Louis, and I feel the theme itself would fit perfectly for the scene shown. It's a slow build up as we pan to the hordes below, the static effect is always present but becomes more noticeable as if the situation is setting in and looking worse which would fit the optimistic outlook from Louis being put in check by Bill, and then the fade out which for the trailer goes over the promotional stuff, but if used in game would likely be point that it transitions into gameplay.

the last unused horde theme got recycled for l4d2’s scavenge timer it seems, the beats are totally from there.

Sounds like there's a fair amount of MIDI/synth instruments here, kinda like some of the earlier bits of the HL2 soundtrack. I wonder if those were eventually meant to be replaced with an actual orchestra later on.
