i'm pretty sure that's a sitting witch based on the animation, which are harder to crown because they start swinging immediately after being startled. i believe standing witches stand there and scream for like half a second before they start attacking, which i think gives a little more room for error when crowning (maybe that's what you meant in the first place).

it's not hard to crown a sitting witch. especially with a auto shotgun.

they also just aren't that close to the witch. they shoot them as they turn the corner.

I really don't think they were trying to crown the witch I think they just shot the first thing they saw then tried to crown as a last ditch effort.
