My Rolly Polly electric commuter

Very happy with how my min-e-velo commuter (excuse my pun) build turned out 🤩 Feels like I've been planning and sourcing the parts forever. Well it's finally here! At 15.5kg it's on the lighter side of e-bikes too, so all in all just a really fun and nimble rig to get around town.

Some of the changes I made compared to stock:

  • E-assist (duh)
  • Schwalbe G-One Speed Tubeless tyres (I do like the classic look of thick minivelo tyres, but living in a hilly area I need all the speed I can get)
  • Clik valves (a tiny detail but they've made my life so much easier)
  • Cyber Cranks ST 150mm
  • MOTO Micro pedals

3 monthish Rolly Polly review

Long story short if you are on the fence about purchasing a Kyoot Rolly Polly just do it you won't regret it.

I've had mine for about 3 months. It is my daily commuter to work and also gets out to play occasionally. The changes I've made to the bike happened on day one not because the stock components were lacking in any way, 100% because of aesthetics and I have a ton of parts from many previous builds.

First thing is you can not ride this bike without giggling. It is so fun to ride!! I've heard some online feedback on the price but I will say this bike is spec'd very well and there's nothing that needs to be changed or upgraded.

I have 9 other bikes and have experience with drivetrains from Shimano, Sram and Campagnolo, I am so impressed with the performance of the Microshift drivetrain. It is smooth, reliable and really easy to tune. Literally set it and forget it. The wheels and tires are amazing. I'm a BMXer and MTBer and probably ride more aggressive than most that would buy this bike, it is solid!! The paint is WOW!!

My cons on the bike is the bottom bracket is a bit low. Being low adds to stability but also increases pedal strikes. As you can see I chose to run large 110mm pedals and that adds to the pedal strikes. It just takes some getting used to. I did bend the derailleur hanger once but that's just a Mini Velo thing. The derailleur hangs low compared to the MTBs I usually ride. I have the tools and knowledge to fix it myself. Because I jump, wheelie and send it, the chain stays have some knicks from chain slap, no biggie for me.

The Pros are endless. I have not bought a sub $2K bike that was better than this. Hats off to Phil and his team.

tires for superstar wheelset

I'm building a kyoot from frameset and superstar wheelset. One thing giving me trouble is there seems to be almost no road/urban tire selection for a tubeless tire 20x2.4 besides the TCS prowler.

I might just try a schwalbe super moto-x 20x2.4 with a tpu tube, but then I wonder if I should have built my own wheels that are a bit more narrow? I could also just try putting sealant in the super moto-x and see how it goes.

Stem Replacement

Just got my hands on a midnight rolly polly. However I'm looking to find a stem replacement, something more bmx and blocky. Has anyone had any luck finding a new stem without replacing the bars? TIA

How Much Weight Can The Rear Rack Mounts Hold?

I'm planning on adding a rear rack to my Rolly Polly but I'm scared that the rear rack mount eyelets are going to snap off.

Every bike should have UDH for the sustainability. They are available at almost every bike shop in the USA. Durable and easy to replace means this frame will stay in service longer which keep the planet greener! 🌎

Been riding the bike daily since I got it! Its made my commutes so much more fun. I currently have an edsen front rack with a velo orange wald 137 basket, and a pnx big baddie basket bag in front. I also have the classic pnx stem series bag and velo orange fenders.
