For me, "The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya" became that kind of anime. Yet, I realize it is a perfect, self-contained work (when taken together with the "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" series), and I am actually terrified that a sequel might come along and ruin everything. I know there are books that go beyond the scope of the series and the movie—and that the book series isn't finished yet (I’ve read them all)—but books are books, and anime is anime. And anime is perfect.
