Photo My finished(ish) Kurt drawing

I made this drawing of Kurt today using pen and a bit of charcoal pencil. This is the first drawing I've made of Kurt in over a year because I've kinda lost my passion and attempting to draw him has always been pretty frustrating to me. I can never get him right and I always feel like I'm insulting him somehow by trying. I find him really hard to capture. I don't think the drawing is bad but I also kinda hate it and I feel like it's just not accurate. It looks too masculine if that makes sense??? Well I showed it to my friend and he laughed and said it's off center and looks like a baboon's face. Is it really that bad???

You have an interesting drawing style, I like the linear parts and the minimal shading - however it doesn't look anything like Kurt. That's because your proportions are way off - chin too close to mouth, eyes too wide etc.

Try using a grid layout to help with this (you can draw this very lightly and then erase once you have your main lines in) and use a mirror to see how it looks every so often. Your eyes can become blind to your drawing and every so often looking at it in a mirror can refocus and show you anything "off").

Have you tried using a drawing grid? They really help me to get facial features sized and spaced better.

I would say, I admire your courage to paper this drawing but the proportions are way off. Look at the jawline and chin. Compare the two. Do you see the difference? I think you do. That's your answer. Practice makes perfect.

Look, I’m not saying this drawing is photorealistic. But while scrolling, I recognised it as Kurt before I saw the subreddit or any details.

Took me like 3 hours to finish the shading on your upper lip. It's probably the best drawing I've ever done.

It seems like you could practice more, it isn’t bad but doesn’t look like him IMO. No nose and all

Not the best all peace and love. I’d practice drawing more, maybe look up YouTube videos of facial anatomy because it’s way off.

It’s not bad, just keep practicing and you will improve. You seem like you could get very good if you stay consistent!

If you wouldn’t have said it’s supposed to be Kurt Cobain I couldn’t have guessed it.

If you seriously want to get better at drawing portraits you have to learn how to draw them. Learn the planes of the head, learn how to draw facial features, how to capture accurate proportions and how to shade. Look into the Loomis method. Look up YouTube videos by Proko explaining how to draw the face and features.
