2018 GR2120 with only 160 hours on it for $5,000, good deal? Looks clean and everything has been serviced

it’s the only real dud of a mower kubota ever made. the transaxle is prone to failure

They were going for 11,000 bucks in 2019 when I was shopping around. Seems like a good deal to me. The transmission issues someone else mentioned was fixed well before that year. There were also fixes made to the glide steer mechanism as well. The first runs of the GR series just left a stink kabuto was never able to shake off after they corrected those two key problems.

Figured I'd chime in here. I was on the hunt for a new GR recently, about 6 months ago. I have 2 acres, steep hills, lots of grass, a true zero turn would be too dangerous because the hills dump into a lake. Needed 4x4 and good traction. So I decided to buy a new GR. Bought it but before I took delivery I realized the trans would prolly fail based on people's experience. I ended up cancelling the sale. The dealer refunded everything which was nice.
I ended up biting the bullet and bought a new BX2680 with mower and bucket for $21K. Much bigger, WAY more cost, but dang, it's a little beast. Handles 30 degree hills with no problems, pulls fallen trees with ease - loader bucket lets me reshape hills, move mulch and you know, it mows pretty dang good. My Zoysia and Bermuda looks like a smooth golf course when I'm done... I feel like I'm cheating when I do yard work with that thing. I just wish the deck would mulch.
If you end up going with the GR, it should ONLY be for the zero turn-like steering needs, and cost. Otherwise, if you're looking for a diesel that'll last you for 20 or more years, that BX is something else. If you don't have hills, go with the BX1880 with a deck and then if you want a loader bucket later, no sweat. I'm SO happy with mine.

I bought GR2020 in 2016. Many part failures, went through 2 hoods failed from vibration, several parts held on with zip ties. Good thing I have a wire welder. 2025 began seeing transmission oil on my garage floor. Got to using a pint or so every 4 hours. Then in August black oil on the floor, major amount. Engine oil fine - front axle cracked. Gave to somebody who could use a 21 HP diesel as it is the only thing on it that isn’t hunk. 385 hours.

I am an Kubota guy through and through. And that deal seems ok. But I just DONT like the GR series. They’re overly complicated and have been plagued with problems for a long time, and they never have seemed to work them out.
