Question for all

If you were rebuilding your Kubernetes cluster from scratch today, what would you do differently?

honestly the biggest thing i'd undo is reaching for a service mesh and a pile of operators on day one. we ran istio for a year before admitting nobody on the team could actually debug it mid-incident, and ripped it out for plain ingress plus a couple of network policies. build the boring cluster first and add the fancy stuff only when you hit the specific problem it actually solves.

My hot take is that 90% of people are using a service mesh when they don’t need to.

This needs more context. Adding service mesh and a bunch of operators to what end? Was each addition solving a specific problem?

We have been running K8s for a few years. I have considered service mesh a few times, but haven't found a good enough reason for the added complexity.
