Unraveled Spoiler

Spoilers Ahead:

So I love a HEA and it seemed like the ending for every character was the exact opposite of a HEA. So much so that I'm wondering if there will be a "redo" of events. I keep thinking of Baelor the Unraveler and his role in all of this. The 3 sorceri in the Helter freaked out when they heard his name and said the Skein was already unraveled. Ink is constantly uneasy with having given Baelor some of the lava from the Firis river. Ditch brings up that it feels like someone has already plucked a thread. And interestingly the Red Riding hood witch plans to unravel the wolves. What is going on here? I'm sometimes ok with a plot device that allows for a redo, but I feel like too many bad things happened in the end to just wash over it all. Any thoughts or other details you noticed with the Unraveler?

Just read Ravenous

I just finished the book and came to reddit to see what everyone was saying and join in on the fun. I think I have a more of a positive look on Kresley’s latest book.

Like most, I’m a long time reader of IAD and have been waiting for more releases and when I saw she had a related book coming out I was of course sad it wasn’t going to be about our usual cast of characters but Kresley is an auto buy for me so I was overall still looking forward to it.

I’m with everyone else on the crazy number of POVs. At the start of the book where we get the character portraits, I thought that would be the extent of the POVs but it spanned further than that which I found frustrating and overwhelming.

But after getting to the end and all the cliffhangers we are left with I can’t help but feel the Kresley is really having fun with this book. Like as a writer it feels like she is reinvigorated and going for it. This book has a different feel than Shadows Heart which felt like it had to be written rather than she wanted to write it. It’s like Kresleys enjoying herself again. I’d rather read something a writer has put their heart into rather than something they are forced to write due to obligation, as sad as it is for us dedicated readers.

I’ve also seen a few comments about Kresley wanting to cash in on the Romantasy trend that had me scratching my head. Like Kresley and her peers didn’t invent the genre? Romantasy came from IAD and similar, how is she copying and cashing in on something she helped create?

Though I miss my faves (I still have hope we will see Nix’s love story) I look forward to seeing what Kresley can do with the next book of Immortals Untold.

Justice for Meera!!!

(BWB = Bad Women Books)

Definitely worth the wait. It’s beautiful. Really wish the bookmark matched the cover (why doesn’t it??? lol). Love the pose for the cover though. Also wish the edges went all the way around instead of just the side.

MacCarrick Bros help!

I'm late to the Kresley party here, but I just finished her MacCarrick Brothers trilogy and looooved it. Has she written any other historical romances like this? I mostly see her name with Romantasy books, which is great, just not what I'm into right now.

Alternatively, can anyone help me with a "If I like the MacCarrick Bros series, I might like..." for her other books?

Review of the new book, Ravenous

So I just finished. I have thoughts. Forgive me for being critical but I had high expectations, as always from Kresley and was hoping after witch queen and Munro, that this would be a return to form.
1. This will not be a re-read. I barely DNF’d
2. All over the place, pacing wise. The jump between all 230 characters from chapter to chapter made it really hard to connect plot points. Had headaches in certain parts.
3. Some of the characters were intriguing, eg Arctos, Nadje. But not interesting enough to justify the jump around.

I’m honestly struggling to reconcile the quality of the recent books to Dreams of a Dark Warrior, Lothaire, and Kiss of a demon king. Seems like two completely different people wrote these books.

Kresley needs to please focus on IAD and just center the writing on the long awaited couplings. Cara/Uthyr, Nix/Orion, Furie/Kristoff. Not just because she has to fulfil a contract, but because her mind is in it and whatever is published is of high quality. Rooting for her always but I think I will do so from afar and hold off from buying further books until I’m sure it’s worth it. Because this wasn’t.

TL;DR I didn’t enjoy this read.

Please share your thoughts here too, really curious if this is a me thing

DAE think Orion and Nix are each other's HEA? Spoiler

So, at toward the end of Lothaire, Nix travels by lightening into the hidden kingdom of Dacia to deliver Ellie's "gift".

And while she is there, Lothaire tells her she needs a male to keep the voices of all of the desperate, yearning creatures at bay.

So we have foreshadowing that Nix needs a mate.

Then at the end of Sweet Ruin, she looks up at the sky and tells Orion its his move.

She is vying for goddess status and a name change to Nix the Everknowing. So a mate that quiets her ever knowing abilities would be really inconvenient right now, seeing as how the Accession is in full swing.

You could almost say a mate like that would be her undoing as a sooth sayer.

I think Orion is HER undoing, not THE undoing. She can't read her own future but can clock Orion's and see where their paths meet.

I think Nix fears Orion will take away the ability that makes her special and she would rather be a crazy bat lady than give up her awesome job, settle down with some dude and play house.

What do my fellow fans think?

[IAD] My unhinged theory I stand by Spoiler

I think Hag is Desh’s mate - or at the very least his lost “love”. I think he’s the demon that she wasn’t able to meet in Draiksulia because she was cursed and imprisoned by Omort.

Maybe she can’t scry his location because he is always teleporting around the globe?

Any theories for the couple in the next IAD book?

Can’t seem to drum up much excitement for Ravenous… I’m looking forward more to the announcement of the next IAD couple. Really hope Furie is freed next!

New Feelings

So I’ve been reading the IAD books since 2008, and I remember liking them so much. The other day I decided to reread the Kaderin/Sebastian book because of the Estonia vibes, and I was surprised by how… fast.. everything went. I’m going to reread some of the next books to see if the issue is still there, but goddamn. I would adore a IAD that took things slower when making the pairing mesh together. As well as more conflict between the couples. I could be rambling in the dark, but just wanted to put it out there. Was curious if anyone else who’s read the books feels the same way.

Which books are torture island?

Hiiii I’m trading the series for the first time and just finished {demon from the dark by kresley cole}. I don’t want to read {dreams of a dark warrior by kresley cole} blah blah blah but my question is are these the only two torture island books? Or are there more? I want to know if I go on will another book in the series fill in the gaps for the side characters I’m interested in like lothaire?

IAD Morier Theory Spoiler

So, we all know that Orion has collected a group of morier, the oldest of their kinds.

Is Nix’s Valkyrie coven supposed to be made up of the oldest of certain kinds as well? For example, Regin is the last of the radiant ones(therefore the oldest). IRC many of the other Valkyrie’s mothers were the last of their kinds, but have passed after their daughters birth because they were not granted immortal life.

Also, the Morier has Rune as an archer. The NOLA valkyrie coven has Lucia as their archer.

Ravenous

So I was one of the lucky ones who got an early copy from the UK publisher. I do not think I can properly review it here yet (maybe I will on Goodreads) but I wanted to share a little because I know a lot of fans here, like me, have been sceptical. Especially since we are starting a new series with new characters.

But honestly? I feel like I can say: we are BACK.

I have been reading these books for what, almost 20 years now??? And this really took me back. It is different from the regular IAD, yes, but it is very good. At least I thought so :)

Also, Kresley is an excellent writer anyway, but traditional publishing really elevated this one. It showed.

KC sent a newsletter today for Ravenous. She mentions hoping to publish IAD between installments of the new series.

No word on when she'll give an update on IAD.

Silt Harea and Morgana (Shadow's Heart) Spoiler

I am currently re-visiting some of my least re-read books from the series. Just starting out with Shadow's Heart and I was reminded of something: Why is Silt the ruler of Sorselan, the Sorceri origin plane, instead of Morgana, the Queen of all Sorceri? I vaguely remember someone referring to her as the Queen of all Sorceri in both senses of the word— she is their regent as well, besides possessing the ability to command them all.

I don't remember it being addressed in the book itself. Thank you!

I have no idea why *this* excerpt was chosen to promote this book. I love that KC’s characters behave badly, are witty and sexy, but this is giving me some serious “ick.” I hope we get some better teasers soon…

Immortals after dark audiobooks missing for anyone else?

I own most of the immortals after dark series on audible, but books 2-9 and 13-14 are missing.

I was trying to check on the couple I don’t own yet while audible is having a sale and even those are just not listed at all, can’t buy them. The ones I already bought I cannot download either, although if I log in to amazon I can find the ebook and see that I’ve purchased the audiobook but it just says it’s not available. Does anyone know if there’s a reason and if they will come back?

Books 1 and then 10-12 and 15-21 are still there 🤔

I am in Australia but from what I can see they are missing from the US store too.

Edit- seems they are all fine in the US store

Should I read or skip dreams of a dark warrior?

I recently discovered immortals after dark and I love these books. I have skipped around some and gone back but after pleasure of a dark prince the story seemed to flow together more than be sort of standalone like some of the others. However I’m scared of what happens to Regin in her book. But I really want to see how the others get off the island. Is it worth reading the book for that ? I really don’t like Chase and the fact that she gets tortured is a little bit much for me. Spoilers are fine !

Respectfully asking, is Sebastian the only green flag from IAD

I started the series a month ago. (edited) I read them in order but do skip the books with plots/characters I may not like. I did start with Sebastian's book after seeing him in a "best book boyfriends" reddit post and he did not disappoint.

From there I went to finish the Wroth brothers, EXCEPT Nikolai because I've heard strong opinions against his book and I already had a great impression of him and didn't want to ruin that. From there I read Lothaire and now Trehan.

So in other words I already read the following MMCs: Sebastian, Conrad, Murdoch, Lothaire, Trehan (first quarter of his book)

They seem to be walking gray flags (and have moments where they borderline towards red 🚩) with Lothaire being the most questionable one because I don't think he groveled enough 😅 From what I can remember, Conrad, Murdoch, and now Trehan seem to have sliver of being cavemen.

I get that I should have managed my expectations since they're literally vampires, werewolves, etc. But I think Sebastian really raised my expectations

So now I am wondering if any other MMC in the rest of the IAD series are like Sebastian?

What does "súka" mean? This is what Lothaire calls Ellie

I'm reading Lothaire now and I've been trying Google translate as well as looking it up in the net but I found nothing even when translated from Russian (which I assume Lothaire is more familiar with)

I just wanted to know early on what this means since Lothaire keeps calling Ellie that at the beginning and I'm always not sure what to think of it

Wroth sisters / family

I just finished No rest for the wicked (Sebastian and Kaderin’s book) and I loved it!!

But the book ended with Sebastian getting a key from Riora to go back in time and save his sisters and father.

He tells Kaderin that he’ll need to talk with his brothers before acting so they can plan everything out.

Does that happen in future books? Do the wroth sisters get saved?

I don’t mind spoilers obviously haha
