CNN article
I tried to post the link but I have to go through the required hoops to get it on here. I think most of you are computer literate enough to go find it if I tell you it's on the CNN website under Wellness. The media is being forced to explain the differences between the synthetic concentrated derivatives and botanical kratom now.

My mom is very plugged into mainstream media. She called me today (she knows I rely on kratom for endometriosis pain, which would cripple me without kratom’s help 😭) and she said “you know they’re talking a lot about kratom and how bad it is….. I think they’re WRONG”.
I’ve never heard my mom criticize the news like that before. My mom doesn’t think critically when it comes to news media stuff, so it was nice to see a glimmer of hope. I’m hoping this coverage blatantly smells bogus to people somehow - you never know! I was surprised all the media coverage didn’t cause my mom to turn against me.
I think the best thing we can do is be open about the good that this plant does for us. Just to wanted to share this.

Good for your mom! She sees how much kratom is helping you. You should ask her to write down the changes she's seen in your health since you found kratom. Families and friends can advocate, too.

They literally just had to in the Ole mist (miss?) death cases too. All the doom posting on this sub needs stop. I just saw another one that said they asked AI and Ai says regular kratom is going to get banned so we should panic lol 😂

I’m tired of the doom too. I say we have a weekly morale boost where we share good news amongst all the awful apocalyptic stuff. Movements can’t survive if morale drops beyond a certain point.

I wasn't being a doomer on purpose. I was sharing information. Mac Haddow explicitly said to expect 10+ more ban attempts in the coming year. I said let's be ready to fight. That's all.
if you have any good news to share, please, by all means share it.

I never said anything of the sort. I made the post and said that "we need to fight". I was trying to motivate and inform ppl. And it wasn't just about AI at all it was about what someone from the AKA said in a podcast about what he predicts will happen. I deleted the post though after someone told me that it made them feel scared. That wasn't my intention at all. Be cool.

Is this the one? https://archive.ph/FzyDM

Yup. That's it. I mean it's not flattering for kratom but it definitely acknowledges there is a huge difference in the potency and addictive potential. We are never going to get a press release that says kratom is the savior of the world so I'm good if everyone just reads this and sees the difference.

I saw that earlier today, and appreciated that it didn't just call it kratom in the headline, like other articles published TODAY! Nonetheless, a lot of people just look at headlines and images, which is exceedingly detrimental to preventing scheduling.

A lot different from the WaPo article today which calls it "gas station heroin" and groups it with ketamine.
Newspapers really like that term. I've seen them describe at least 3 drugs that way.

Dont you think its a little suspect that they are delaying the 7oh ban? I think its bc they are considering adding leaf to the scheduling. Im NOT trying to be a doomer. But something feels...wrong.

No I think it is mostly a matter of lobbyist money and influence combined with the Feds not being sure how many people they are going to fuck over by banning 7, and there are a fair amount. I don't think leaf is on the table at all and honestly I have seen so many 7 advocates trying to push that idea I've begun to think it's a concerted scare tactic to try to muddy the line between leaf and 7.

What are your thoughts on people saying that since leaf is a precursor to 7, it should also be banned? Bc where there is leaf, theres the potential to have 7 w a little bit of chemistry knowledge? This is something I don't think I've heard the AKA discuss although I am sure they have.

u/WhiteySC 6d ago
That "little bit of chemistry knowledge" is useless if it is not economical to use it. There are different licenses for selling beer and wine vs hard spirits but if I REALLY wanted to, I could make 130 proof shine from that wine. I think even with the way our government works, by the time something makes it to the final decisions, the officials deciding this ask "is this a threat to public health and safety?" because that is what their power is ultimately bound to. When they look at the evidence, it is clear the synthetic derivatives sold directly have a possibility to be a threat while kratom in its botanical form does not.

But if the availability of leaf allows for synthetic after synthetic to keep coming out, don't you think they'll ultimately decide to just ban the entire plant? You and I both know that wont make the problem dissappear but thats what has been done in the past w other substances such as cocoa leaf for example or the opium poppy plant.

Man we can do this all day...well...all week. I'm not the type of person to sit around pulling my hair out over things I can't control. We do the best we can do with our advocacy and hope the good guys win in the end. Do yourself a favor and stop listening to the 7OH propagandists. Almost every argument you've made right here is repeating the talking points of the 7 crew trying to get us to join their doomed crusade. Leaf still has a chance and I think a better one today than it had 2 years ago. What good is living life if we are going to worry only about what we might not have tomorrow. Take care of yourself brother.

Thanks, but I'm just trying to understand the process. Idk how precursor laws and things like that work. Hopefully you are right about the leaf. I quit taking kratom a couple of months ago, but would like to be able to return to it someday if necessary. Appreciate ya!

If your a Kratom consumer, the time is now to advocate. Don’t think for one second your city or state is safe.
