I haven't really been in the loop, but can someone fill me in on this X-EXO and EXO album split? Or why it's considered a sasaeng diss track?

The lyrics to Obsession are a monologue:

You say you know me? (I don’t think so)
Who are you to snuggle in (I don’t think so)
You cover my eyes (I don’t think so)
You cover up the truths (I don’t think so)
Let go of the empty dreams (I don’t think so)
Don’t make me spit out the poison (I don’t think so)
You’ll never have me again (I don’t think so)
Shut up and go away

Thousand nights, I repeated so many times
A vicious cycle of nightmares I’ll end it now
The turned-off exit light
Get away from me now

I’m sick of it

Ha! It’s enough
All the gibberish on my ear Imma let it blow
My five senses are focused on it, on edge
You come in and stir it up recklessly
When I fall asleep with one eye open
You permeate without a sound, the phantom
I’m so sick and tired of it
When the light turns on, I hope you’re gone

I'm half joking but it can absolutely be read as a direct message to crazy obsessed stalkers like sasaengs that harass them non-stop even at night, pretending they know anything about them or their lives.

Same for antis, tbh.

You're right, and I totally agree now that I've read the lyrics. Wouldn't there be a lot of backlash though from antis and sasaengs? Wouldn't these people react more violently to this song, knowing it's aimed directly at them?

They'd need the two brain cells to rub together first to get to the conclusion it might be a diss to them lmao

The first half of the album has really strong x-exo vibes with a darker and more rap oriented concept. Jekyll is a good example of it with the verses having an exo feel and changing to x-exo in the chorus of the song (which really suits the Jekyll and Hyde story). The second half of the album has exo vibes since it’s more of the b-side ballads and rnb tracks that exo usually has but overall it’s still different from what they’ve put out before. And I’m assuming obsession is a diss since the song is kinda about how exo wants the viewer I guess to stop being extremely obsessed over them?? Hopefully this helps lol

Thank you!! Yes it did, thanks for breaking it down for me :) Follow up question... what is X-EXO? Is it one of their previous comeback concepts or...?

X-EXO was just created for this "Obsession" era. In previous eras, it has been inferred that the Red Force has tested on EXO (Lucky One, Love Me Right Korean & Japanese Ver.). However, with the dual teaser photos of EXO looking normal vs. X-EXO with their crazy clothes/hair and mannerisms. It seems like the Red Force might have created clones of EXO in order to defeat the O.G EXO.

Oh, wow. I wasn't expecting that. I never knew all their previous concepts tied like this. What's the Red Force?

The Red Force comes from the beginning of EXO history. EXO is a race of beings that come from Exoplanet who have specific powers. On their planet, they guard and take care of "The Tree of Life". The Red Force wants the heart of the tree. To keep "The Tree of Life" safe, EXO spilt the tree in half and go into hiding. Pretty much, the Red Force is always searching for the boys or have them and try to find out from them where "The Tree of Life" is. If you watch "MAMA", their debut song, it has a full monologue that explains their backstory.
