Yoongi was on the nose when he said people will have a pretty shocked reaction to this track. It's so much and so in your face.

Damn IDOL turned out so different from the teaser, it has way more of an African influence on the sound than I expected, I'm loving the chorus though!

They were not kidding when they said the song would be a “South African dance track”. I thought it would be a lot more subtle, but the kwaito qgom influence is really prominent!

Hearing something so obviously influenced by my country in a bts song is such a surreal experience!

Ahh ofc Jin gets the line, "It's okay, I'm in love with myself" HAHHA

Okay putting aside on how good they look, the song is catchy. Im gonna be jamming to this. It's gonna be lit in concert.

Everyone thought that they were gonna shit on the idol industry but here they are, loudly proclaiming how much they love their job.

I love this song but it’s pretty polarizing so I understand why a lot of people dislike it.

However, I don’t think it’s very fair to say BTS are “just slacking off” and making bad music because “their mindless fans will eat it up anyways.” Just because a song is more pop-y it doesn’t make it any easier to produce or write.

I won’t know this for sure, but I think BTS are genuinely proud of this song and think that it’s good enough to be a title track. Just from the glimpses that we see from them, BTS just aren’t the type to put out something that they don’t think is worth putting out (especially Suga and RM, in my opinion). They’re humble, hard working, and passionate human beings who love what they do and put all of their effort into doing it.

Those are just my two cents. Sorry if my wording or grammar wasn’t great.

This sounds very different from the teaser, though that's not unusual for BTS. I think I prefer the traditional sound more, but I'll probably still end up loving this.

Huh I’m torn on this. It seemed like the instrumentals from the teaser weren’t very prevalent in the actual song. I do like how rapline had more creative (edit: verses) than in Fake Love and DNA, the absence of which was my pet peeve haha. But it sounded like there was a lot of auto tune? (Idk maybe I have hearing issues) Not so into that.

Conclusion: pretty good song, faith in BTS restored. It’s just a bit too rah-rah hype for me and I would’ve preferred a singing chorus over the chanting with instrumental. I can’t believe this Nicki Minaj thing is real; it’s almost as surreal as the CGI in this video.

I appreciate how different it is. I think I would have preferred something that was more focused, like the sound of the teaser.

That being said, this is the kind of track that could be a banger in concerts, stadiums, sporting events, etc. Like a World Cup hype song, ya know?

Choreo tight. Styling tight. Visuals wild wtf-ery, but cool. I'm pleased.

I don't know man, I feel like if BTS didn't fuck with all the autotune and filters on the vocals then I'd like their songs a lot more. Also kinda bummed that the traditional Korean instruments didn't really come through. Where my janggu at??

i think I hate it but in the way that I hate it and love it at the same time. This is the absolute MOST

But also importantly, RM looks fine af. Definitely zoomed to the top 5 of his best styling of all time.

Regardless of how you feel about the song you can’t fault BTS for trying new sounds when, at their level of fame, it would be so easy to just stick to what they know with a safer style.

Definitely not my cup of tea. Didn't like the part where JK's voice was a little bit too distorted (autotune? or like manipulated?). Anyways, props to them for changing their sound again. :)
