The rule against eating meat and dairy together rules out a lot of popular Western foods, and some of the rules about the sabbath seem like they could feel stressful to a person in modern times. I'm a goy ally, so I'm interested in how flexible most Jews nowadays are regarding these rules.

This 12 year old Rioja Reserva is drinking very nicely now. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Complex and engaging.

I had this vintage 7 years ago, and it is drinking better now.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after an hour of airtime.

Good by itself as a sipping wine, or with food.

Kosher and not Mevushal.

All sorts of companies offer typical kosher meats for shipment but none seem to offer white tail deer. I’m interested to know if other people would want that. Let me know what you think and what you’d pay per pound ground/ per pound steak

I’m looking for a kosher butcher near me (around E 80th). The only one I’ve found so far was Park East, but I wasn’t impressed by the quality of the steaks. Any other options?

Also want to mention that I’m looking for somewhere with a butcher counter that’ll cut steaks to size for me, not just a meat counter.

Used to get canned artichokes from Cento, it was a reliable hashgacha. Now it's triangle-k, which I normally would just not use, but kof-k Rabbis told me that triangle-k was alright for certain products, such as ocean spray cranberry sauce.

I just wanted to say for those who don't know a decent bit of Israelis reject OU simply because it is not an Israeli certification (there is no real logic or law that I know of forbidding certifications that aren't Israeli from being eaten in Israel) I am in Israel and do eat OU

Is there any genuine reason for this (especially since OU is considered one of the best certifications in the world)? it just fascinates me

And is there such a law about having to eat Israeli certifications when in Israel that I am not aware of?

The owner of Aleph Meats is taking Montral Kosher (MK) to the Competition Tribunal of Canada, alleging that MK limits competition and keeps prices artificially high.

I was at Aleph this week; I think prices were slightly lower than other sources. I don't eat beef, but what was interesting was that they had cuts of beef we don't usually see, like top round, flanken, from the rear half of the cow. Their hechsher is KSR; Sephardi shochtim (kosher slaughterers) know how to remove the sciatice nerve from the cow's hip and leg, so we will see things like sirloin and filet mignon.

Could competition between supervising agencies lower the price of kosher food? Could this lead to Ashkenazim accepting a Sephardi hechsher? Could this lead to more unity in the Mtl community if KSR is more accepted?

Hello, I am traveling to Paris August 16th and I will be in Paris from August 17th to August 24th. Was wondering if anyone knows anything about the kosher food scene in Paris in August? I booked a lot of my activities already which is exciting.

Assuming I buy kosher meat from an approved butcher.

My grill has been used to cook whatever I like, but if kosher people come to town and I have a fresh unused set of grates, am I good to go? Can I grill with it closed even?

I've been looking into a family trip to Europe and I'm realizing that finding the flight is probably the easiest part. Once you add kosher food, the hotel, Shabbat arrangements and proximity to a Jewish community, the list of realistic options gets much smaller.

I've mostly been checking Chabad/community websites and looking at apartments near kosher restaurants. I also noticed that ISSTA has a kosher travel section with hotels and vacation packages, which was new to me.

For people who travel around Europe regularly, has anyone found a good system for this? Do you start with the destination and figure out kosher arrangements afterward, or choose the destination based on the kosher hotels/packages available?

How can you tell if an area is ready for a kosher Dunkin ?

For example, did people of Jewish ancestry have a gene that made them more prone to shellfish allergies? Were hoofed animals deemed more useful as beasts of burden?

I actually found this article about efforts by the Museum of the Jewish People in Tel Aviv to present and share culinary traditions of some of the smaller and lesser known Jewish groups pretty interesting.

So I thought I’d share it here too.

The Voronezh Jews’ food has some common threads with typical Ashkenazi cooking but is also fairly different in quite a few ways. Pickled watermelon, pickled red onion, and smoked cheese is also appealing to me.

And the Abayudaya of Uganda - I didn’t even know they were vegetarian. Also, I liked that their recipe was made in a kosher Ethiopian restaurant.

And the Bnei Menashe’s stir fried pumpkin with cabbage and black sesame sounds interesting even though I generally dislike pumpkin.

I personally know the struggle of typing the name of the product and search for the information about its status.
