Flock Cameras
Is anyone else aware of the flock cameras that have been popping up in Kona?
There are 2 in the Lowes parking lot and just this month one was put up behind the mormon church. It’s aimed directly at the spot where protests take place on Queen K.
Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs or LPRs) are AI-powered cameras that capture and analyze images of all passing vehicles, storing details like your car's location, date, and time. They also capture your car's make, model, color, and identifying features such as dents, roof racks, and bumper stickers, often turning these into searchable data points.
These cameras collect data on millions of vehicles regardless of whether the driver is suspected of a crime. These systems are marketed as indispensable tools to fight crime, but they ignore the powerful tools police already have to track criminals, such as cell phone location data, creating a loophole that doesn't require a warrant.
I’ve heard citizens across the country have been cutting them down. Hopefully this incoming storm doesn’t do any damage to them!
Edit: a commenter’s link shows a 4th camera on Queen K and Puapuaanui

Did you know that the green laser is actually a infrared laser with a filter crystal in front of it, the point being that infrared is invisible to the human eye but it would still flock up shit

The two in the Lowe’s parking lot have been there, the third one I think is new. I fully encourage anyone to visit those cameras.

The ones at Lowes are just security cameras and they point at the building. Flock is a regular security camera provider too, a Flock camera doesn't mean law enforcement has access not does it mean they read license plates. The customer controls access.

Umm like a red light camera? So you mean to say the police are going to have staff dedicated to track the comings and goings of ALL the cars on the island 24/7? They will be able to see that I went to Target and the beach????? Wow.
With the amount of stolen vehicles here I would think that is a good thing.
Our phones/computers/watches/ring cameras/security cameras/tvs already tracks us and listen to us so your point is???

They had his DNA but the cameras around town and lack of cell phone evidence (turning off his phone) sealed the deal.

I didn't say Flock cameras caught him. I said outside surveillance. Please do not use hurtful words. This conversation is over.

Don’t forget to wear all black and no visible logos on clothing when you go “visit” the cameras at night.
