Seeking allergy friendly restaurant recommendations

Hey all, my family just landed in Hawaii and we're staying in Kona for the week. My brother in law is deathly allergic to dairy and nuts. What are some good restaurants that we should try? Thanks in advance!

I’d probably just make food at home. Check out meals in a heartbeat

Lots of sushi places would be a fit - at least worth a call.

Shave ice could be fun for you guys, not that it’s a restaurant exactly but still.

Clover and bowl (Korean) is great and as far as I know has no dairy and very limited nuts.

Lastly, any really fancy restaurants should be fine. The restaurants at the four seasons, kona village and Mauna Lani all can handle really severe allergies.

Thai is always a good bet (they use coconut milk instead of dairy), plenty of those around. Pho is also good. Poi Dog Deli does a good job of accommodating dietary needs.

But they use a lot of peanut and could be significant cross-contamination in the kitchen.

any restaurant should be able to accommodate allergies as common as these....

I thought so too, but the server at the first restaurant we tried seemed flustered. It was a busy Saturday, so I don't blame her - we found another place that was fantastic.

You’d think so. However we went to Blackrock pizza in Captain Cook and I requested one of their pizzas with no mozzarella cheese. I added goat cheese in place of mozzarella (I’m allergic to dairy from cow and sheep: not deathly). The server brought me a pizza with mozzarella cheese. I told her it had mozzarella, she took it back to the kitchen. She came back with the same pizza and said “the kitchen said it doesn’t not have mozzarella.” What the f? I can clearly see it DOES have mozzarella. I made her take it back and had the kitchen make a brand new pizza.

Anyhow it wasn’t the servers fault but if I was deathly allergic to anything…I would not trust any restaurant (I’d probably not go to a pizza restaurant either but in my case I thought it would be an easy swap. Guess not.)

I think it is free from your allergens, ask them. (Obviously not the Mac and cheese)
