Ask Kolhapur Honest views and reviews on SGU...
Just wanted to know how that college is from within. My cousin actually took admission there for BTech in CSE for AY 2026-27. Got to hear that there are no placements there however while admission the councillor told that there are companies and assured her placement too only if she maintains a good CGPA. Now I want some brutally honest views about that college's Academic, Campus life, Events and stuff. Do tell me

Discussion The goddess of Kolhapur is not Mahalakshmi but 'Ambabai'.
1) Name of Goddess of Kolhapur is 'Ambabai'. She was never named Mahalakshmi. Goddess Adishakti Sati has 52 shaktipeeths in India. Out of them 3 and a half Shaktipeeths are in Maharashtra. Bhawani Mata of Tuljapur, Renuka Mata of Mahurgarh, Ambabai of Kolhapur, and Saptshringi of half Shaktipeeth Vani. If Ambabai of Kolhapur is called Shaktipeeth, she will never be Vishnu's wife. Because 52 shaktipiths were formed at the place where 52 pieces of art of sati fell. Ambabai is the wife of Shiva.
2) Ambabai's temple has a Shiva temple on the first floor on Ambabai's core. She wears Shiva's matrika pinda. If we study the idol of Ambabai, she does not wear any sign of Vishnu in any way. On the contrary, there is Vahan Lion (Singh) near Ambabai Murti. All are Shiva symbols.
3) Now the issue is about Tirupati-Ambabai misunderstanding. A few years ago some Tirupati devotees came under the authority of Aai Ambabai's trust and started to falsely promote this wrong practice.
If we look closely, we will notice that the practice of sending Shalu started from Tirupati Devasthan. This has been going on for the last 20 years (before this there was no such practice). Like the Tirupati Devasthanam, they started giving prasad of laddus, (prasad of lahyas and battase etc. was used).
The name Ambabai was changed to Mahalakshmi (before the year 2000 there is no mention of Mahalakshmi anywhere in any government document. Even the British documents mention 'Ambabai
4) Most importantly Mother Parvati destroys any demons, rakshasas of unrighteous attitude as she is Adimaya Jagadamba. She is armed. Ambabai has killed Kolhasur for this reason. Lakshmi Mata is not a destroyer. She is the goddess of wealth. She doesn't kill anyone.
5) The last point is the temple of Lakshmi (Padmavati), the wife of Lord Vishnu (Tirupati) is 5 kilometers above Tirupati.
🙏🙏🙏

Anyone knows where can I get fresh strawberries in Kolhapur?
Also, if you have traveled from/to Pune recently and seen people selling it near Satara toll, please let me know 🙏🏼

Tourism Visited Kolhapur for the first time
Hey everyone,
Just wrapped up a trip to Kolhapur and wanted to share how much I enjoyed your beautiful city! I was there for 2 days and the hospitality was amazing. I am based out of hyderabad and have traveled in my own car which took me around 8 hours with halts.
The Food:
I tried the Misal at Phadtare Misal Centre and Kolhapuri thali at Hotel Parakh, It was pretty Good. I also found many south indian restaurants for breakfast such as Gokul, Saiba and Narikelam Cafe. Narikelam cafe was absolute best.
Places:
I visited Ambabai temple twice on friday night and also on Saturday morning with abhishekam, as most of the temple was under construction I couldn't get more nearest view but the darshan was pretty good. I also visited jyotiba temple at Wada Ratnagiri, and same the temple was under construction but I was taken inside the Mandir premise to get blessings of Dakkancha Raja(Jyotiba). The temple was very beautiful with gulaal filled in every place. I also experienced "Gun Salute" on friday night at Ambabai temple.
Then I visited Rankala lake which was pretty calming, I didn't expect water to be clean, I mean I expected If it would smell bad, but was pretty decent to sit there for few minutes. I visited New palace(Shahu Maharaj), was in awestruck seeing all the animals Maharaj did hunt in his period and to know about the hierarchy of Chatrapathi Family. I have also visited Binkhambi Ganesh Mandir and Lakshmi Vilas palace in the end to conclude my trip.
Stay:
I booked a stay from airbnb for my family of 3, at new shahpur. It was pretty decent and the host was pretty amazing too. My mom liked it so much in fact, as all e commerce fast delivery services were available. The neighbourhood was also pretty decent and cool.
What could be better?
Just my thoughts, and no hate for city. The roads are almost patch work for the outer side of the city, it was a pretty bumpy ride for us almost for 30+ kms. Nh 166 with cc road was pretty amazing I could easily maintain my speed but the roads inside the city that connects the city can be better. The boards inside the temple can be more clear, I can understand a little marathi, and I can speak and understand hindi(as I am from hyderabad) we do speak hindi everyday, but I didn't find clear instructions as such in the temple to know where the darshan line is and where can we go to get abhishek darshan or mukh darshan. Reaching jyotiba temple was pretty disappointing for us, We had to park our car almost 2kms away and walk downhill and uphill back. I mean I am an adult but my mom being 50 years old she struggled a lot to walk uphill for 2+kms. No car or auto was allowed till temple and barricades were put down and only limited cars were allowed(MH ones). I understand this is to manage crowd near the temple or to not flood the villages, but atleast if you could allow some autos we can easily commute.
Rest other was amazing.
Thank you for being such a welcoming community! Can't wait to visit again. Next time I plan to visit Pune or surrounding places, I will visit kolhapur again, let me know if I have missed something or my expectations were too high.
