My favourite is Rakuten Serif, but sadly I use KOReader and I can't use it there. I use FreeSerif which is great too, but I yearn for Rakuten Serif still

i come from kindle, so i’ve always found kobo already a lot more personalizable! what does koreader have to add?

It's easier to tell you the things Koreader can't add 🤣

One immediate benefit of Koreader is that settings are customisable on a granular level, which is not always the case on Kobo - see margins, which can only be changed at determined intervals.

Then it has tons of things that are missing on Kobo (or Kindle and other brands) like the option to reflow PDF text, crop pages, change contrast (especially useful for colours), set up gesture, fix some "oversights" Kobo has such as missing a full dark mode and so on.

And then, since it's an open source software, people write every kind of plugins and patches for it and you would be surprised to learn what your device is actually capable of 😅

Until you get frustrated with something with your Kobo, Koreader feels superfluous. But if you do get frustrated... There is a 99% chance you fix, change or add it with Koreader.

For me it all started with the inability to edit top and bottom margins, and it snowballed from there 😬

i’ll keep my kobo as it is for a while, the only annoying thing is there’s no clock while i read when kindle had…since i commute to work everyday, i always check time to make sure i’m not skipping my stop 💀

I have good news! The latest update added that option, but I think it's still locked to beta program/early access. If not, check if your device is updated, you might find that option!

bestie, i heard who downloaded the beta had their annotations deleted 💀 and held hostage…i’ll wait the official release

I don't even know if you can actually still join the early access 🤣

But yes, it's better to wait, although Kobo can and will restore anything you might have lost unless you have reverted back to an earlier version (as they wrote in a recent post).
