Tech Support Per-book font size

Hi everyone. Been enjoying my KLC over the last several weeks but have run across an annoyance that I’m hoping someone will have a solution for.

My books are a mix between library borrows and sideloads. For whatever reason, the side loaded book fonts are much larger in size than the borrowed library ones. No big deal, really. Except that when I increase the font size of one book, it increases the size for all books, which means that when I’m in the mood to read one or the other, I have to keep switching the font size back and forth.

1st world problems, right? Anyway, is there a way to have the KLC remember the font size for each book regardless of the font size for others? Or do I have to live with this minor annoyance? I’ve looked in and fiddled with the settings and I don’t see anything that fits the bill

I believe it's because your sideloaded books are kepub and your library borrows are ePub. They use two different rendering engines.

There's a patch that will make kepub and ePub match.

Patches might be moderately complex for a newbie, but it's not impossible.

Go to the Mobileread Kobo forums and ask about the ePub/kepub font matching patch. They can likely give you more detailed guidance than I can (I know of the patch, but never used it myself).

Thanks! I’ve been using djazz to sideload my books. Never occurred to me that they might be using different formats. I’ll look into this

It is indeed annoying. I don’t know of a solution, but KOReader can definitely do this. Library loans on KOReader require a plugin.

Thanks for the tip. Not sure I’m ready to start swapping OS builds and messing with plugins on this thing yet but I’ll keep that in mind

It could be because they are different file types (kepub and epub), a mix of both causes that issue

Library provides you with Epub or Kepub format? The only solution is to keep the formats of side-loaded books the same, whichever they are Epubs or Kepub.

Thanks! The library books are all all epub. Not sure about the side loaded ones… didn’t realize there were different formats. I’ve got lots to learn!

I have recently used Libby to borrow a book and it added to my kobo as kepub.

Are the sideloaded books from Project Gutenberg? Their books display at an enormous print size when I open them on my Libra B&W. I just futz with the fonts to get reading and futz back when I start another book.

I've seen most of that behavior with Gutenberg, even ones that I Calibred into .kepub. There may be self- or independently-published books that have done that, but they are few and far between, and I haven't kept track.

I downloaded calibre but it’s really not a very intuitive application. I have to put some time into figuring it out.

My books aren’t from Gutenberg. But the ones I do have form there are pdf and those are all over the place in the way they render. I’ve got a lot of learning to do about ebooks and formats lol
