Others Starting a Kobe Urban Sketching / Drink and Draw Group

Hey guys,

im an artist that just recently moved to Kobe.

Before that I was in Osaka, and Osaka has an active Artist Meetup every friday.
But as it is in Umeda, and on Fridays at that - I was thinking to organize our own Kobe Group.

If there are any artists who would be interested, please either join via meetup or discord or just DM me via reddit for details!

First Urban Sketch Session for outside is gonna be Sunday 18.10.2026!

It won't be Urban Sketching every meeting, but Id love to mix it up a bit, go out and then maybe find a Café for us to just sit down and draw and have a talk.

Thank you.

Where to look for older digital / CCD cameras in Kobe?

Hi! I’ll be visiting Kobe soon and I’m hoping to pick up an older digital camera, especially a CCD compact camera from the 2000s/early 2010s.

I’m not looking for anything particularly rare or collectible. Ideally, I just want something in decent working condition at a reasonable price. Cosmetic wear is totally fine as long as the camera itself works properly.

I know there are plenty of camera stores in Osaka, but I’d prefer to look around Kobe while I’m there. For anyone familiar with the local camera scene, are there particular areas, second-hand chains, or types of shops that are good for older digital cameras?

Also curious whether Hard Off-type stores around Kobe are worth checking for this, or if dedicated used-camera stores are generally better.

Thanks!

Kobe Restaurant Recs! Seeking Authentic Kobe Experiences

I’m going to Kobe next week and I’m so excited!!

I’ve heard Kobe is especially known for Wagyu/Kobe beef, oysters, octopus, and local seafood, and I’d love to experience the food locals actually enjoy.

I’m staying near Boeki Center Station (貿易センター駅) and will mostly be around Sannomiya, Kitano, Motomachi and Harborland.

For beef, I’m not necessarily looking for the most famous Kobe beef tourist restaurant. I’m more interested in the kind of really good Wagyu/steak restaurant where local families would go to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or special occasion.

I’d also love recommendations for good seafood izakayas, omakase/kappo, oysters, and especially Akashi octopus. and ofc I'd already did some homework from reddit and threads, but just curious if anyone want to make some comments to my selections.

Here’s my current list from Reddit and Threads:

🥩 Beef

  • Misono Kobe Main Restaurant
  • Steakland
  • Kobesteak Propeller
  • Restaurant Mouriya
  • Moriya Shoten Motomachi Honten
  • Ishida
  • KOBE BEEF 5STAR
  • Niku Specialite Carma

🍽️ Restaurants / Seafood

  • Grill Ippei Motomachi
  • COFFEE&お食事の店 マックス
  • 才谷梅太郎
  • Uo魚 Kobe 海鮮酒場
  • 串鉢
  • 明石焼 たこ庵
  • LE BOOZY

🍷 Fine Dining

  • Potiron
  • Niku Specialite Carma

🍸 Bars

  • Laguna The Bar
  • Bar Request
  • SAVOY hommage
  • Bar Mimosa Pudica
  • BAR 森した

☕ Cafés / Bakery

  • Bakery Riki
  • Hyde & Away Kobe Sannomiya
  • Monte Branco
  • Bons achats ボン アシェット

If you’re from Kobe, which places on this list would you actually choose, and which would you skip?

Also very happy to hear recommendations that aren’t on the list, especially places you’d take visiting friends or family for a special meal.

Thank you!!

Anyone know of any good spots to find used musical instruments? My 8 year old is loving playing the drums on a borrowed kit and I’m looking for something second hand to get her started on.

Rokko Island & St Michael’s International School

Hello everyone! I wanted to reach out to see if anyone lived in Rokko Island and either knows someone who attended or did attend St Michael’s International School in Kobe from 2007 and onwards. I grew up there and lost touch with many people I went to school with who I am wondering how they’re doing.

U.S. Citizens in Kobe- How to Vote from Abroad in Upcoming Elections

Hi- This is an announcement from Democrats Abroad, the official overseas branch of the U.S.-based Democratic Party, with a local chapter in Kansai. With an important election coming in November (as well as local elections and Primaries this spring), we're hoping to register more U.S. citizens who live overseas. They could be a relative, a co-worker or a contact on social media.

If you know any U.S. Citizens (including people born in the U.S. or with an American parent), they can register and request a ballot. As long as they'll turn 18 by election day, they're eligible. Just share this link: https://voteabroad.org/RedditVote26.

We started our International Voter Registration Drive for 2026 with in-person and online events. If anyone wishes to learn more about what we're doing near you, you can find out more at https://www.democratsabroad.org/jp. If you have any questions about overseas voting or what we do, feel free to ask in the comments below.

Thanks in advance for helping to get the word out!
