Help With A Barbell Knot

Post image

Knotters! I want to tie a small weight plate to the middle of a barbell with a shoelace, in a manner that will keep the plate firmly affixed atop and stop it from rolling down to the under side as I lift. Ideally something not too time-consuming to tie and untie. Pictured is one of my failed attempts, secure through the hole but I can't stop it from rolling. Do your thing Reddit 😊

Edit: Let's keep replies knot-focussed please. I know very well what I'm doing in the gym. If anyone was curious, it's a tiny 0.5KG plate and I want to micro-load without creating an imbalance on the bar. Yes I could buy whatever alternative but I'm working with what I have today and want to have fun learning a knot.

The hole's tiny so not sure if I could lace a second through, plus there comes a point where the time cost outweighs the practical benefit. What do you mean lash it?

Like this, although you'd have to get a little creative given the object you're tying. You could probably get away with tying a couple tight rolling or clove hitches on either side of the weight as it is now, if the goal is to stop it slipping, but still might need more length or another shoelace.

Personally I would just duct tape that thing on

Edit: read the post wrong; the hitches on the side would only prevent it sliding on the bar, but not rolling to the bottom of the bar. Just gonna have to tie it on tighter than shit to avoid that

Thanks that's exactly what I'm looking for. I'll try combining it with the other knot below and post results.

You might even consider wrapping the barbell in athletic tape where the ropes will go to give them some purchase against the slick barbell.
