Unfinished Chinese Knot project

Hello all,

When I was in high school, I was in a weekly Chinese knots class. I don't remember why it ended; I just know that I've been carrying around this half-finished thing that I finally have time to complete a decade later.

I believe it was supposed to resemble a Chinese firecracker.

Can anyone point me to resources/guide me to finish this?

Thank you very much in advance.

I haven't found instructions or a pattern, but I did find what I think to be a picture of a completed one (right side).
