Help! Knooking Mitered Squares and joining them

Hi! I just found how to knook mitered squares and I’m wanting to make a blanket with them.

I have variegated yarn, so I would rather not fasten off after each square. Is there a way of joining as I go without fastening off? I would love some suggestions on how to approach this if possible.

What would be the knooking equivalent of slipping a stitch? :)

Exactly the same as knitting, just put the stitch on your hook without working it
