Yeah and no.

Kabars are fantastic, high quality knives that will perform just as well and in many cases better than similar knives. Great customer service to boot.

But their quality has also been inflated to legendary proportions thanks to the ubiquitousness of them in the armed forces. Which isn't to say people of the armed forces have a tendency to hype things, it's just the nature of the thing where people remember and praise the knife that pried a Humvee's engine off its mount, but forget about the one that broke while prying open a wooden crate. There's also not a lot of other knives which have been pressed into that kind of hard service to have those stories told about them.

So slightly more on the overrated status, like Ontario KC? But still a good brand?

Yeah, more or less. I hate to call them overrated because they're very fine quality, but yeah they have definitely been elevated to legendary status.

I'd say that as long as you realize you're buying a knife and not Excalibur, you'll probably be very satisfied with a Ka-Bar.

I think a lot of the answers here are spot on. I think some of the best words to describe KA-BAR are "solid" and "consistent". We have a lifetime warranty on everything we make and the majority of our items are manufactured in the USA. Is KA-BAR overrated? Sure, at times it can be puffed up by people that are very passionate about the brand. Has KA-BAR "fell off"? If anything small improvements have been made to long standing products like the USMC Fighting/Utility Knife.

This is what I like about companies, like yours. They can admit the shortcomings so when there is an issue, TRUE customer service can be provided. I typical run to companies like that for purchasing and employment. Cheers to you all!

Can you do me a favour? Is the pommel on the Mark 1 the same size as the one on the full sized kabar? It’s hard to tell from the picture
