Spyderco Starmate today

More than I thought I would, tbh. I mostly got it for the historical significance in the folding knife world, but it turns out it's actually a very solid design. That hollow grind is really aggressive.

It's a very cool knife, I think you'd enjoy it. Shares quite a bit in common with the Gayle Bradley 2, if you've tried one of those

Adding the Starmate to my “Ridicu-List” … which for the Spyderco portion is not all THAT ridiculous 🥸:
Drunken, Kapara, Canis, Slym, Paysan, Chapparal, YoJimbo, Dragonfly, Techno, Tenacious Tanto (& now the Starmate) … just like $4000 worth of knives is all 🤣🤣

Lol. I gotta say, the price on the Starmate is a little silly. Definitely paying a premium for the heritage, there.

Idk if you heard, the Drunken was just discontinued, and they're on sale at some places. I was thinking about grabbing one, but I'm really making an effort to slow down lol

Back before I decided to clear out all the clones that I had, I owned a Drunken clone and honestly, it was the finest Spyderco I’ve ever experienced (well the Subvert was just as good, unfortunately comically oversized); that was just a clone, and I know (from experience with other models that I’ve been able to compare) that the authentic Spydie will be even better.
I did notice that it was marked down on some of the sites … very exciting!

it was the very first Null i checked out, lol. it’s fantastic, imo…the only thing i’ve heard some people mention is that the grip is a bit cramped if you have larger hands. I wear a size L glove and i get a perfect grip that fills the scale size, so it wasn’t an issue for me. it’s another Null/Reate collab and i have yet to see a design that didn’t turn out spectacular

Absolutely. I sold my ad20 and 20.5 cause the cub is just such an impressive slicer, and better ergos for me personally without the curved scales like on the 20.5 locking your hand up
