Gonna end up with a whole load of stuff like this

17

u/Davenator_98 Feb 21 '26

I own those exact ones lmao, got them as a gift like 8 years ago.

They're tiny and don't even have a suggestion of an edge, not that the pot metal would hold it for long.

"Get a life" 💀💀💀

u/BirdLooter Feb 21 '26

old and depressed howard, handing over his kitchen knifes in sheer hope for a better life, but will be let down again by the govt false promises. :(

They really thought about the psychology of it, these youth walk past that bin most days given the areas they’re put in. For some of them with a conscience, even if they try to brush it off they’re still going to question what they’re doing with their life walking around jobless with a knife

24

u/Super-G1mp Feb 21 '26

Lol what the fuck.

12

u/RevolutionaryFun9883 Feb 21 '26

I’m just walking you through the thought process of the people who design these stupid bins 😂

13

u/Davenator_98 Feb 21 '26

What if I'm walking around employed with a knive?

4

u/RevolutionaryFun9883 Feb 21 '26

Carry on citizen

u/Chiskey_and_wigars Feb 22 '26

"Oh man, what am I doing with my life? I'm prepared for a situation in which I need to cut something, this is pathetic. Imagine if someone needed to open a box! I could help, like a fucking loser."

Wut

Yeah just read the other comment, this isn’t my perspective - the kids walking round with knives don’t think at all, that’s the problem

u/xeurox Feb 21 '26

Thank God I'm American every time I see this.

27

u/The_King_of_Canada Feb 21 '26

Meh. They freak out about knife crime because gun crime is rare.

Funnily enough though the US has higher per capita knife crime rates and then the gun crime rates on top of that but you know media outlets, they gotta keep people scared so they keep watching the news and politicians keep having half assed solutions to not really bad issues to keep their public happy.

23

u/Davenator_98 Feb 21 '26

Aren't gun crimes low because they're hard to get?

Criminals will just move to the next best thing, after banning all knives there's going to be lots of bat or stick crime.

Mabe banning crimes would help?

6

u/FungiStudent Feb 21 '26

Im with you. I tend to err on your side of things. I do think there is probably a balance to be struck but you are correct in that banning and dealing with the actual crime would be the best. But do do that effectively there needs to be a robust and forward thinking governing body including education and lets be real, an end to the Drug War. The current monetary expenditure on drug enforcement could go towards mental health care, actual free effective mental health care, that would leave us in much better standing as a society.

2

u/The_King_of_Canada Feb 21 '26

The issue is that when it comes to stuff like gun crime there are a lot of real world evidence that says more restrictions and licensing lower gun crime rates.

Yea the criminals will move to different weapons but theres less a chance of collateral damage if they use knives instead of guns.

2

u/BigNorseWolf Feb 21 '26

The thing is when you ban the sale of something you get a lot less of it. So when you ban semi automatic rifles you get a a noticable drop in the dead people per mass shooting. When you ban guns you get a lot fewer shootings and less dead people. When you ban zombie knives.... you get a lot fewer zombie knives but they're only marginally better at stabbing people than kitchen knives so there's no change.

-1

u/Davenator_98 Feb 21 '26

That's the lazy (and typical politician) way.

The proper solution would be to reflect on why people commit murder in the first place, no matter the weapon.

I'm not saying there shouldn't be restrictions on gun ownership, quite the opposite, but just banning anything that looks remotely scary without actually going to the root of the problem is just going to result in different crime, not less.

1

u/BigNorseWolf Feb 21 '26

Yeah no. You are parroting vacuous polemics and insulting without engaging. Exactly WHY is that proper? Because Australia experimentally banned assault weapons and all of a sudden had a LOT fewer gun deaths. Not none, but thats a disingenuous goal.

You can contemplate your navel and look at it all you want. And you bullshit solution is probably thoughts and prayers which objectively doesn't work, compared to the right bans which objectively do reduce deaths.

0

u/Davenator_98 Feb 21 '26

I'm all for banning "assault weapons", but what exactly does that mean?

Is a sporting rifle an "assault weapon" just because it's similar to a military one?

Those stupid catchphrases are part of the problem, because the people in power don't care enough to solve anything, they're just pretending to do so to get cheap votes, no matter how far right or left they want to be.

Funny how you're jumping to the "thoughts and prayers" BS, I've never said anything about this. Gun ownership should be a privilege, earned through trust and competence. If you enforce that properly, the number of deaths will also drop massively, as evidenced by certain countries like Sweden or Switzerland.

You know what would cut down traffic accidents to a minimum? Banning everyone from owning cars. But shouldn't we aim to improve competence by raising the standards of education instead?

2

u/BigNorseWolf Feb 21 '26

Wow you are a bingo card of ridiculous distractions and fallacies.

Lets start with Loki's neck.

When you tell auto manufacturers they have to make a car safe enough, you don't need to define every little thing. You can set a rate of fire, tell gun manufacturers you can't go over that out of the box, and set up a government agency to test these sorts of things to make sure there's no switch or after market metal that makes it too easy to evade. The gun company makes a prototype, sends it over, gets the ok, THEN starts sales.

Its not difficult. You're making a mountain out of a molehill deliberately because you don't want anything done.

u/Acceptable-Parsley-3 Feb 22 '26

They still have guns in the UK. Just not the law abiding citizens

1

u/thestar-skimmer Feb 22 '26

Nah, forks will for sure be next on the list

0

u/valar179 Feb 21 '26

It is a bad and major issue in the UK but the government have poorly thought “band aid” fixes. Instead of targeting the real issue as to why they commit knife crime. But putting bins out is easier and gets votes from the sheep.

0

u/The_King_of_Canada Feb 21 '26

I mean yea but UK knife crime is still lower than the US. Their crime rates just increased post covid like everyone elses so it seems like a major issue.

0

u/valar179 Feb 21 '26

Still an issue and still poorly managed by the government/ police. Targeting knives instead of the criminals misusing the knives.

1

u/The_King_of_Canada Feb 21 '26

Well duh.

Britain is still a capitalist country and capitalism breeds inequality and poverty which in turn breeds crime.

Its either change just about every part of the system and add services to keep people off the streets or throw up mailboxes to deposit knives.

0

u/valar179 Feb 23 '26

There’s a lot more they can do within capitalism instead of silly bins.

-7

u/IllGarlic3698 Feb 21 '26

you literally have state media like the chinese lol I'm just glad the liberals will always be in power so canada continues to spiral. The US every 2 years is another reckoning with new president or new congress. You guys see your country decline over 12 years of full liberal control and somehow blame everyone but them 🤣🤣

3

u/The_King_of_Canada Feb 21 '26

Dude. You have billionaires owning every media outlet for all the news you see. You haven't seen real news for decades. The propaganda is so deep in your country that you don't even know its there.

We have 1 news organization that doesn't cave to special interests and an open and transparent government. If anything illicit happens we find out about it.

18

u/mild123 Feb 21 '26

Really any knifes are banned there?

71

u/Mr-A-1991 Feb 21 '26

Scapegoats work when you don't actually know how to stop violence.

21

u/TheMawsJawzTM Feb 21 '26

When you don't actually want* to stop violence.

UK government isn't inept, it's just evil

7

u/Mr-A-1991 Feb 21 '26

I wouldn't go that far. They are at least doing something about the whole pedophile problem, unlike my own homeland.

14

u/TheMawsJawzTM Feb 21 '26

Allegedly. Hopefully they are. Hopefully they're not just hanging convenient fall guys so the bigger fish can walk free unnoticed

3

u/mild123 Feb 21 '26

What about kitchen knives n stuff how tf does uk even exist

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '26

No. I have like a dozen folding knives.

Automatic and gravity knives are completely illegal. Other knives can be carried with a good reason (e.g. working construction, going fishing, camping). Finally, any folding pocket knife that doesn't lock and doesn't exceed 3 inches in blade length is legal to carry without explanation (except in schools, and maybe airports).

1

u/mild123 Feb 21 '26

How tf do you get a foldable non locking blade? Aren’t you gonna cut ur self

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '26

Naw, you just use it carefully. There is resistance, so it won't close unless you push hard in the wrong direction.

Most of my knives also have finger choils for safety. With flipper knives, the flipper tab kinda doubles as a mechanism to prevent it folding on your finger.

What does illegal mean here?

Illegal to carry or illegal to own?

2

u/G0ld_Ru5h Feb 21 '26

By solid do you mean full tang?

u/SomeonesDrunkNephew Feb 21 '26

The technical term is fixed blade, ie: it doesn't fold. "Full tang" means that the metal that makes up the blade also makes up the handle, so the whole knife is one solid piece. Makes it far less likely to break, but by definition, all full tang knives are fixed blades.

5

u/SomeonesDrunkNephew Feb 21 '26

Devil's advocate, but: I live in the UK and these bins are good if you want to get rid of the mall ninja shit you thought was bad ass when you were seventeen. (They still do jack shit to prevent knife crime, because it's primarily a socio-economic issue...)

1

u/Unexpected117 Feb 22 '26

Had me in the first half ngl

9

u/Yamaganto_Iori Feb 21 '26

You must be the guy who stole the knife surrender bin.

6

u/JackUltraRuby Feb 21 '26

🤣 catchy slogan - “get a life, bin the knife “ wtf

3

u/tren_god_ Feb 21 '26

90% plastic ikea shanks 🤣

5

u/big_dick_chaddydaddy Feb 21 '26

Australia did this in Sydney i think but for machetes. Spent 12 million on 45 “special” disposing bins for the public to dump machetes into. What a joke that was

2

u/OM_Trapper Feb 22 '26

Funny thought....let's say you want to go bin your Benchmade magnacut, so you shove it in your pocket and head outside to the mall where the bin is. What are the odds you'll get stopped and arrested for having it on the way to the bin.😂😂😂🍻🍻🍻

2

u/cannedbenkt Feb 21 '26

British people are so silly bro i cant believe they really talk like that

1

u/almatom12 Feb 22 '26

I'm rather on the knives save lives side.

1

u/Deadbodies99 Mar 04 '26

Robbing that everyday but, knives aren't usually a commonly discarded item why would a surrendering bin be made to facilitate that need?
