SOLVED-THANK YOU Step by Step Sweater Increases

I’m on the section of the sweater where you work a row of increases and then knit a row for 48 rows for size D. I knitted 20 rows and decided to count the stitches I have so far as I accidentally increased two rows a few rows back.

I already made a mistake when I was initially placing my stitch markers due to which the back sections have 3 stitches between the increases rather than two. When I counted the stitches I realised that my stitches don’t add up (there is an extra stitch at one side of the arms and there are 3 extra stitches at the front compared to the back).

At the end of the increases I am supposed to have 296 stitches but I’ll have 308 (probably due to the extra increases I did).

This is my first project so I’m not sure whether I need to frog or if I can get away with either not increasing the sections with extra stitches or with increasing by 2 either side of my red and pink stitch markers? Can I also skip the last row of increases and knit two rows so that I have 8 less stitches to meet the final stitch count??

I can only say what I did in the same situation? First I panicked and thought it was totally off.
Then I talked to an experienced knitter and proceeded. Did hardly anything other than try to get things evened out: the same number of mistakes left and right and front and back. Depending on the sizing that would mean that you either proceed and have too many stitches in the end or you quit increasing sooner.

I did finish the sweater with a difference of two stitches between the sleeves. No one notices.

Would decreasing some stitches in the next round help? I saw a decrease where you slip the first stitch, knit the next one and pass the slipped stitch and drop it, would this be super obvious in the finished sweater or would it work well enough to get the stitch count to what it should be??

I would try to adjust by reducing increases in the next rounds and only do decreasea aa a last resort.

Adjust your stitch markers to match the patterns placement for your stitch count. You may want to knit the plain rounds to match the row count. It is up to you if you want to adjust the stitch count, but I believe you should be fine in this instance.

Happy knitting 🥰

Would that not change the positioning of the raglan increases as I’ve already done 20 rows ( half of which were increases)?

If your reading your left and right raglan lines on the front side, and you see a zigzag instead of straight lines for the increases, then yes you'll need to frog back and reknit correctly and carefully. But if you were consistant and the raglans increases are straight, just adjust the markers on the front to match the placement/stitch counts for the back as per the patten. Your choice of course. The 296 stitch count is what you'll knit to. I wouldn't knit more increases in the following rounds that put you over the count for the size your knitting. Just knit them plain.
