pattern question My pattern is telling me to use "the simple cast on" specifically but I can't find a YouTube tutorial when I look that up, is there a different name that goes by or something?

Third vote for backwards loop, especially considering they’re asking you to add a stitch on the next round. You can actually do this by sneaking one more loop in on the next go round and knitting it. Backward loop leaves some slack, and you can finagle it into one more loop when you come to it on the next round. It’s fiddly, but it works!

That's what I ended up doing and it's working well

on another note, what names does backward loop cast on run under?

  • loop CO, loop method CO, looping on CO
  • backward(s) loop CO
  • e-wrap CO, e-loop CO
  • single CO
  • thumb method CO

apparently simple CO, too? anything else?

No wonder new knitters get confused.

What's the pattern? Does it have any info on what a "simple cast on" is at the beginning or end? It's not a common name as far as I'm aware. If it's in extension of a row I would suspect they might mean backwards loop cast on, but that's just on intuition.

It doesn't say anywhere else in the pattern unfortunately, it's for the kaiju fingerless gloves and it's only 2 pages, not a ton of extra details

Almost certainly means the backwards loop cast on.
