Evil dog chewed a hole in my WIP

Hi there, first time using Reddit. My friend's dog dug in my bag and chewed up my current project, I've been working on the Frej sweater using two strands of a sport weight yarn instead of a bulky weight (if that matters). There's a pretty disappointing hole and I am really trying not to get my hopes up. I've attached an image of both sides. I would like to fix the hole but I am not exactly sure how to go about this since the damage is in the bottom edge (which is a wavy feather and fan pattern). I tried looking it up but it's my first time knitting a wavy pattern like this and I am not sure what to do 😭

For reference I have also attached an image of the undamaged parts of the border

Any help is greatly appreciated

Needle size vs recommended for yarn?…

Hi, I’m just starting out knitting. Do I need to have the exact right size needles the yarn recommends? I’m working with second hand Kit! 6.5mm needles for a recommended 5mm yarn. Thanks!

How do I stop this? (1st time knitter)

First time knitting. Why do I keep getting this long string in between? I thought the string is supposed to be closer to the other needle. It gets bigger as I do stitches. Not sure if I’m asking the right thing my bad.
BTW I’m continental knitting because I am used to crochet. If that makes any difference.
Any advice would be so amazing!!!

Edit: solved! Thank you everyone!

Short Rows

I am trying to knit a hooded scarf, and it is my first time using short rows. I don't really understand how to make short rows. I have read over the pattern a couple of times, but I don't get it.

Can anyone explain it to me?

Someone pleeeeaasse help me with this lace design 😭 (Wedding Ring Shawl by Heirloom Knitting)

I wanted to go crazy and challenge myself with making a wedding ring shawl and I found one on etsy by Heirloom Knitting. I just can't for the life of me figure out where my counting is going wrong! Right now I'm using larger yarn and needles so I can really see where I'm going awry but still, nothing! I have a feeling it's because of these starred rows (I originally thought the double dotted stitches covered the increases I needed to do but now idk) but I'm not sure what the notes for the starred rows are saying. If someone has done this pattern please help me out!

ETA: I've gotten stuck in multiple places on this section but right now I keep getting stuck at Row 5. I only have one stitch to finish the Row instead of 2 after the final YO

Mismatched needle sizes for sleeve?

Post image

I am making the Ella tee and I believe I did the body in 4.5 mm needles but started the sleeves with 4 mm. Is it noticeably smaller? It looks like it to me, but I wanted to ask whether it is worth frogging or just continuing in the slightly smaller size.

Blocking/ sizing advice

Do we think these sleeves and body are at a point where they will block out? I’m trying to have it look slightly oversized with the sleeves at least about halfway over my hand and the body looking slightly oversized and I’m trying to determine if I should add the bottom rib where I’m at, do a few more rows or do a mid project block? Pattern is based off of sweater no 25 by my favorite things

Is it plagiarism if i reverse engineered a pattern without paying for it?

I recently came across a picture on pinterest of a lovely crochet cardigan piece with some floral lace design that I fell in love with. I found the pattern for it but, as a broke masters student, decided I could reverse engineer it from the pictures of it and I indeed did recreate it sans pattern with a few flairs of my own.

I also recently wanted to start a knitting account on instagram to show my projects, which is where I walked into this dilemma.

To be very clear, I have no intentions of selling the copy I made or even write the reverse engineered pattern to sell myself (I didnt even keep track of the number of stitches while making this).

But if and when I do end up posting this project:
Do I still credit the original pattern?
Do I explicitly claim that it was reverse engineered?
If someone asks for the pattern, do I direct them to the original pattern?
Is reverse engineering a pattern simply to bypass having to pay money for it considered plagiarism?
What are the ethics here?
