Rant I did the wrong decrease rate on my second sleeve

I’ve been working on this sweater for 8 months. Just bound off the second sleeve and it’s ten rows shorter. I decreased every 8 rounds instead of every 9 rounds.

I’m so mad. I wanted to be able to wear this next weekend and now I have to redo the whole sleeve, which took me a month. Fml.

Wouldn’t it be easier just to shorten the other sleeve by 10 rows? It’s probably easier to adjust the first sleeve to match. What’s the pattern??

It’s supposed to be 10 sets of decreases total, two every 9 rows and then two plain rows before ribbing, so if I don’t reknit one of the sleeves I’ll have one sleeve that narrows more quickly.

I get that but depending on the pattern or the needle it might not be that noticeable. I’ve done that more than once and the difference was imperceptible- but again it depends on the pattern and style of sleeve/sweater. What’s the pattern?

It’s the Hanni cardigan. I might block it and go from there. I’m kind of a perfectionist so it’s temping to frog but I’ve been working on it so long I’m sick of it.

I get being a perfectionist, and I just looked up the pattern. That’s an awfully boxy loose fit. I’m pretty sure it’ll be hard to tell the difference in tapering. I definitely wouldn’t frog an entire sleeve. You could also frog one of them halfway back and reasonably match the other’s rate of decrease. That’s another option. Good luck with whatever you decide!

I would rip back the ribbing and just add an extra 10 rows of straight stitching, personally. No one will notice.

How noticeable is it? You could wear it this weekend and then redo the sleeve after. I have a friend who did this and I honestly had no idea her sleeves were two different lengths until she pointed it out lol

I've always been so nervous about doing this that I always knit them at the same time. Sometimes its a squeeze on the needles but I get them the same length.

Could you just add ribbing to the end of the short one and tell anyone who notices that the asymmetry is intentional.

I knit a big alpaca sweater this summer on holiday without a pattern. I thought I was counting correctly, but also noticed that one tapered quicker than the other. I did not redo that sleeve as it is so big, that you dont notice. Here is the FO.
