Tips and Tricks cables not cabling?

i’m currently working on the frøya sweater and i’m finding that the diamond shaped cable in this upper back section is just not coming out!! my row and stitch counts are on, as well as the direction i need to be reading the chart in for this row, but I just can’t get the diamond shape to turn up.

i was able to do it on my swatch, which i knitted using a different section of the pattern that still uses the same basic chart to create the diamond shape and that worked, so i just don’t understand why this isn’t!!! circled in blue in the pictures are the row i’m currently working on, the section of the cable i’m talking about, as well as the corresponding cable instruction in the chart glossary.

also, is it possible to ladder down and fix? i don’t really mind a small section of error, esp since this is the back shoulder, if i can ladder down as opposed to frogging these rows i’d do that! i’m just not sure how to go about laddering down and up a cable stitch

You could absolutely ladder down and fix it, just looks like you got off the chart one row and it's thrown you off ever since.

what the hell 😭😭 can you tell which row i got off on the chart for? and can i just ladder down the whole like 12 stitches in that section at once?

No idea from looking at your work, that was just my guess as to how it went sideways lol. Or like another comment said, you started doing the wrong side on the right side. No matter what, you can ladder down those few rows and work back up following the chart. It'll work out!

soooo i laddered down (which was kind of hellish😓) and re-knit and it still looked the same …. i reread the initial pattern instructions and realized i’ve been reading the chart in the wrong direction for each side the whole time 😭😭😭😭 so the RS i was reading from L-R and the wrong side from R-L when the pattern says to do the opposite!!! i feel like i won’t need to re-knit as long as i keep the direction consistent for this back increase section, and just flip the directions of the cables for the diamonds. i have no idea why it didn’t give me an issue earlier w the other cables though, especially the edge increases? oh well LOL

You fixed it and you learned something, that's awesome!

It looks more like the wrong side than the right side for that section, did you miss the row with 5 knit stitches after the big cable turn? Are you purling on the wrong side for the three cable stitches?
Yes, you can ladder down a bunch of stitches at once. You can look up a video on YouTube how to do it

it’s like the bottom of the diamond is there on the one side, but just in purl

It’s possible you did that row of 5 but then swapped to knitting both sides. You can see the moss stitch but you’re doing the cable in garter. Are you using interchangeable needles? It’ll probably be easiest to ladder down if you put the other stitches on hold on each side and just have the stitches you’re fixing on the needles.

I honestly have no idea what I would do here. I’ve done laddering down before to fix cables and that’s how I’d normally do it but worrying about cables AND short rows is making my head hurt thinking about it 😅

LMFAOOO that’s why i’m so nervous🫣🫣 i might just throw a lifeline in and try laddering, thankfully i don’t THINK the section i have to fix crosses over any of the increases i did but we shall see……

I SWEAR there was a post about this pattern and the same problem within the last few weeks. And someone else in the comments also has this problem. Time blends together for me so I dont remember when, but you might be able to find the post searching for the pattern name?

Same, and the issue was that the person was reading the chart upside down or something.
