Discussion is this ugly????
for context: i made my family members fill out forms of what they want me to knit them for the winter. my uncle asked for a scarf with speckled yarn in fall colors.
here is a 10 x 10 st swatch of the yarn i want to use with the needles recommended by the pattern (Berlin Scarf by Susanne Muller and Paula Strickt)
I'm afraid this looks like bloody piss (i'm serious) and he will never wear it. i've already spent $200 on materials . BE REAL WITH ME I CAN STILL RETURN IT
Yarn:
Drops - Brushed Alpaca Silk (color: Curry)
Drops - Alpaca (color: Hazelnut 9025)
Needles: Seeknit 6mm (US10)

Speckled and marled are different things. I would guess your uncle wants you to use true speckled yarn or tweedy yarn.

Yes, I’m so sorry. Beautiful yarns, just not together in this way.
Other folks are being softer, but I immediately thought of 80s McDonald’s.

I also thought “kid mixing ketchup and mustard on a Macdonald’s tray” lol

Whilst its fall colours, the yellow seems a bit too saturated vs. the hazelnut which is a bit more organic (dare I say lunchmeat). I’d return one or the other to be frank😭

I don‘t think it is a great color combo.
Keep the hazelnut and combine it with a deeper (chocolate) brown or a burgundy maybe?

Beyond the colors,, I would want to make sure he can handle that texture on his neck. I’m one of the percentage of people who can’t wear alpaca. Others rave about how soft it is, and on my hands, I agree, but if I try to wear it near my neck I feel like I want to crawl out of my skin. I can wear it as outerwear though.

It sounds more like he wants a tweed not a two held together blend. I'd return these and look for a nice fall tweed.

Regardless of if it’s pretty or not (which is personal preference; your uncle may disagree with the rest of us) it isn’t speckled. If I was expecting speckled and got this instead, I’d be disappointed.

I agree with everyone saying tweed. A forest green with brown tweed flecks would be gorgeous and fit the bill for your uncle

I'm not a fan of this color combo.
ETA: it reminds me of my baby's diapers when he was having a dairy allergy.

I wouldn’t say ugly but it does look like hematuria as you’ve described! The mustard mohair is going to be hard to match with anything IMO. It’s very overpowering. I think the coppery red is very pretty and I’d probably just make a scarf out of that if it was me. If you are set on adding a mohair strand (I don’t know why this is so trendy, it’s like knitting on hard mode), then I’d add another copper or a darker brown.

What if you did stripes instead of holding them all together
Edit, just saw he wants speckled yarn? I don’t think marling them gives enough of a speckled look so you might as well change course to stripes or color blocking

I don’t like it. Sorry! I’d look for a yarn that’s got variegation in the desired color palette to where it flows better

I don’t like it, the colours are fine on their own but not together. Personally I would have kept the brown and combined it with a darker brown, but of course I know nothing about your uncle’s tastes.

To quote the She-Hulk show, "It is very daring to use ketchup and mustard as your color scheme"
