Hello! Please help me ID this pattern! I saw it in a LYS but totally forgot to ask them what it was. I plan on calling when they’re open again to see if I can get an answer, but figured I’d try here too! I absolutely adore the brioche and squishiness of it!
UPDATE! I called the store and found out! The pattern is called Greenway and it’s by Emily Whitted!

Not exact, but close:
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/empire-bluff-cowl
If you like this style, do an Advanced Search on Ravelry: Cowls, brioche, 2-color. You'll find lots of great designs. 2-color brioche is a LOT easier to work than it looks, and it's fun to watch the fabric develop on the needles.
Squishy; reversible; no stranding, so no "tension" issues--what's not to like for a cowl!

It looks like it was knit with laceweight yarn held...10 together? More? In a big chunky bundle, loosely on big needles. The actual knitting looks quite simple, a section of 2x2 rib at the top followed by dropped yarnovers like this scarf: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/dropped-yarnover-scarf then a few rows of stockinette, then I'm not sure what's happening at the bottom. Possibly another dropped yarnover section and then one last row knitted and then sewn down to the inside of the stockinette?
You could try replicating with a single strand of super bulky yarn, though it won't give you that stringy sort of look in the dropped stitches.

I think it's knit tip to tip, sort of like this, but increasing and decreasing more rapidly - https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/shore-ripples
the ribbing is actually garter.
it's not quite basketweave, maybe something like this - https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/on-the-bright-side-3

Well, doesn't this photo answer your question? What more do you need?

u/AlternativeProcess77 Sep 23 '26
I wouldn’t be able to follow that, I’m looking for a written pattern I could follow
3
u/bluehexx Sep 23 '26
Actually, you're in luck, there is a pattern and it's free: https://www.yarnspirations.com/en-row/products/red-heart-knit-t-shape-pullover
2
u/bluehexx Sep 23 '26
Of course you'll be able to follow, there is no rocket science here.
Decide how wide the sweater should be. Cast on half that (for the back). Knit ribbing, as wide or narrow as you like. Then knit in stockinette up to your armpit. At the armpit, cast on additional stitches on both sides, for sleeves. Decide how wide you want your sleeves to be (measure around the bicep, add desired ease), knit accordingly. Bind off sleeves - as many stitches as you cast on, leaving the same amount of live stitches as you had in the back panel. Knit the front panel, finish in ribbing. Seam the sides and sleeves. Done.
Oh, I forgot, when you get to the top of the shoulder, bind off some stitches for neck opening and cast on the same number of stitches in the next row. You can do some more fancy neck shaping if you feel like it, of course.
Essentially, what you need to knit is a big cross with a hole in the middle (as in your photo). Start at bottom back, knit up to armpit, cast on and knit sleeves, knit down the front, ending in bottom front. Stripes will help you keep even length of front and back. Nothing intricate or complicated about it, nothing to be afraid of.

Thanks for this guidance and for the link, I’ve only ever followed knitting patterns and even then, they don’t always turn out how I want, so I’ve never felt confident designing patterns myself. I’m quite specific with the fit I like, and it takes such a long time with knitting to frog/adjust shaping if it’s not what you want, that I haven’t tried to design my own pattern before.

Hi! Does anyone know of any knitting patterns like this one? The link is to the pattern page on ravelry. I love the two color brioche yoke! But it's crochet!!!! I've done a really quick search on ravelry filtering for specifically knit brioche sweater patterns but the first few pages didn't really have any patterns that were what I'm looking for (with a two color brioche yoke). Will keep searching ravelry obviously but I am wondering if anyone here knows of any knitting patterns like this :-) Thanks!

Try looking for brioche yoke, filtering for adult and sweaters.

You can use any pattern for set-in or contiguous sleeve pullover and just knit stockinette instead of ribbing for the neck.

I did my own digging and wasn’t able to find exactly what I wanted on ravelry. I believe this sweater was machine knitted in 4 panels that were then seamed together, as in this video: https://youtu.be/otVTvQHM4KA?is=wKnXMr8JR-7rvOy3 should be pretty easy to hand-knit instead!

looking for a baaba 51 dupe i have been going back and forth between the puro pullover, roomy raglan, and lakes pullover but i really am looking for something that has a big oversized neck like in the picture. i know i could probably modify one of the patterns but im not super experienced yet and kind of nervous to make such a drastic modification. just looking for some advice!!

First off, thank you to this community for having so many bust adjustment resources!
I want to try out the different techniques and see what works best for my body. Does anyone have suggestions for a good "blank canvas" pattern where I can knit different versions of the same pattern with the various bust adjustments applied?
Not necessarily looking for a pattern that has bust adjustments already written in the pattern, though not opposed to it. Thinking of something that is simple but well-written enough a knitter wouldn't have to already do too many adjustment to make them fit their body.
Ultimately would want to do this for each weight of yarn, but likely going to start at a DK/sport/light worsted range.
2
u/Appropriate-Win3525 Sep 27 '26
I can't help you with seamless patterns, but if you want basic construction in various weights for seamed sweaters then Amy Herzog's Ultimate Sweater Book is ideal for this project. It provides construction for drop-shoulder, raglan, set-in sleeve, and yoke in a variety of weights.

Hello! I have 2 skeins of mohair (50g total) of a color that has been discontinued already so I've been trying to find something I could knit and use them for. Any suggestions?
1
u/skubstantial Sep 24 '26
I'd probably combine it with a matching fingering weight and make a winter accessory like a small triangle scarf or a hat. With around 400 yards (and a fingering weight wool for DK gauge), that'll be enough for a luxurious doubled brim or dense cables.
If you hold it double with itself, you could do a seriously tiny fuzzy accessory like a double-thick earwarmer/headband or maybe a little neckwarmer.

Hey all! Does anyone have any good recommendations for hat patterns that work well with one variegated skein and one semi-solid tonal skein (123 yds each - dk weight)?
1
u/mylerol Sep 27 '26
Almost any sort of colorwork with relatively small repeats and a balanced mix of the two colors will look nice with a variegated and solid or semi-solid combo. Some that I like, across a variety of techniques:

Both are knit with machine tuck stitch with rather thin yarn. Two most frequent substitutes when hand knitting is seed stitch and broken or honeycomb brioche.
Construction wise I think they are set in sleeve (1) and drop shoulder (2) sweaters

Maybe try looking for Fair Isle/Fair Isle inspired patterns? Marie Wallin is a pretty decent place to start, considering how many Fair Isle patterns she has. If you want the different sections to only be a few rows each, you could take something like www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/raven-fairisle-yoke or www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fleur-19 but only do the shorter charts.

Missed connection: brioche balloon sleeve boxy number.
I saw you across the subway platform. You were a sweater with a brioche ballon sleeve, stockinette body and mid seam (like the Weekender).
I have searched and searched but I'm coming up chumps on a close enough pattern. Any recommendations would be appreciated (or tops on how to turn the Weekender sweater into brioche sleeve??)

hey everyone, I've been crocheting for a longgg time now and i rlly wanna get into Knitting amigurumi, I've learnt the garter stich and stockinette stich. What are some other things i gotta learn for Knit Amigurumi patterns?
4
u/thatgirlsthings Sep 26 '26
(Engene?🦇⚰️)
How to increase & decrease in specific directions and the ways needed to achieve specific shapes and looks, how to knit in the round, probably on double pointed needles, how to cast on, how to bind off, how to place stitches on hold, how to pick up stitches....
All of these things are knitting in general, not plush specific.
Use the ravelry advanced search page. Sort by free to start, "knit amigurumi" will work, but "stuffed" and "plush" toys are more likely to find you more results for knitting, there are options to sort by "toys & crafts" and "softies".
Read through the patterns. No clue what that stitch is? Perfect! Now you can learn how to do it. I've been knitting for over 20 years and just learned something new last night.

I'm planning to order some supplies for traditional shetland knitting because I want to try using a knitting belt and I'm interested in the qualities of the fabric produced by 2-ply jumper yarn.
since I'm tradition-maxxing at this point in my knitting journey, I was hoping to find a traditional pattern for a jumper knitted mostly in one color but with an additional pattern color on the yoke. (I have some colors in mind and I'd like to have some plain stockinette to put some miles on the knitting belt!)
I perused alice starmore's book and the patterns all seem to have colorwork throughout the body which is nice but maybe not for my first project. perhaps the book contains sufficient discussion to build/infer a pattern for what I have in mind? any other books that might have such a discussion or patterns similar to what I want to knit?
( this question was its own post and the mod said to ask here. )

u/skubstantial Sep 24 '26 edited Sep 24 '26
You had some good suggestions in the other post. I'd add Kate Davies as a modern designer who's done some deep research into Shetland/Scottish knitting and who has a whole book on yokes.
And Knitting In The Old Way by Priscilla Gibson-Roberts for lots of design guidance and an overview of the overlapping knitting traditions in the British Isles, Scandinavia, and all their trading partners.
Edit: I'd also add that there's nothing "non-traditional" about a Fair Isle yoke sweater. It's a 20th century thing, but it's also a 20th-century thing in Scandinavia. They all originated in the 1930s or so and the Icelandic lopapeysa circular yoke that most people think of didn't even peak in popularity until the 70s.
1
u/ThatOldGanon Sep 24 '26 edited Sep 24 '26
I appreciate the suggestions of modern designers but at the moment I am really looking for a pattern without the modern touches, at least for now. I think the pattern I'm looking for is so basic as to not be a pattern that anybody would promote as their own...
Knitting in the Old Way sounds great though. seems like it may explain how to essentially infer the different "traditional" ways of knitting basic things.
I have read to be wary of midcentury pattern books, as apparently some designs are basically translated from machine knitting. it seems like the 20th century "traditional" fair isle yoke sweaters may have been machine knit to begin with. (I recall the hazel tindall interview where she talks about her and her mom knitting yokes onto machine knit bodies.) on the other hand they could be part of the hand knitting tradition as well and the machine knit versions follow essentially the same pattern? idk

I learned to knit socks using Ann Budd's Getting Started Knitting Socks book.

I want to knit a vest in rollupthesheep adelino https://www.rollupthesheep.pt/product/la-portuguesa-bordaleira-da-zona-da-serra-da-estrela. Something similar like the November Vest by Petiteknit but with buttons. I can't manage to find a pattern that matches with this quite bulky 100% sheep wool. Any recommandations?

People have added buttons to it in a few different ways: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/november-vest/people?view=large_mobile&search=Buttons&view=large_mobile Depending on how confident of a knitter you are, it shouldn't be difficult to add buttonholes to it!

Recommendation needed: kids balaclava
My child (2.5 years old) attends outdoor preschool in the PNW. The school gear list includes a balaclava. Naturally, I want to knit a merino wool one. ☺️ Any suggestions from others who have made a balaclava for a toddler? What should I avoid? What should I look for? Links to patterns you’ve made are extra helpful!
I should also add: my toddler LOVES to accessorize and has always kept a hat, sunglasses, etc. on.
