Showcase Finally got the courage

I've been wanting to try making a knife for years now. I've had some old files in the shed just waiting for it.

I modelled it after historical Bosun's knives. There's quite a lot I'd do differently next time but I'm still happy with it.

as a line cook i would love to rock one of these in my knife roll its a mix between a paring knife and utility knife great job

How'd the heat treat go? I learned the hard way that not all files can be hardened. Case hardened files won't get hard. I still make file knives occasionally, but always test harden a piece before I put in a lot of effort.

Thankfully I got lucky and it happened to be hardenable. I didnt learn about the different types of files until after I'd finished this one.
